With a call for yet another special City Council meeting this Sunday, the Zimmer Administration takes another turn to stave off the Beth Russo hydra in what can only be accurately described as a full on death match over the hospital and Hoboken’s very financial health the stakes.

The latest move to get Hoboken University Medical Center to the finish line – and alive – involves a deft maneuver shifting to a special meeting where five votes via resolution scores a win.

For a short meeting, last night’s special council session was all the more a train wreck for the utter disregard shown to the institution of the council, the people of Hoboken and last for the long suffering employees of Hoboken University Medical Center.

Last night after the successful vote on the essential parking agreement for the midtown garage to license spaces for the hospital, Corporation Counsel explained why a second ordinance and vote was needed to not delay it for 20 days as in a typical ordinance.

Mark Tabakin, the City’s Corporation Counsel said the hospital was not able to make payroll and the agreement needed to be updated so the close could occur today.

Here’s the critical and final vote related to saving Hoboken University Medical Center and relieve Hoboken taxpayers of the $52 million bond guarantee.

The parking agreement a critical portion of an overall agreement saving Hoboken University Medical Center from closure passed 5-4.  The agreement paves the way in a final chapter keeping the hospital operating as an acute care facility.  Officially the sale should be completed tomorrow and Hoboken taxpayers relieved of the $52 million guarantee.

Beth Mason’s last gasp attempting to sully the last component of
the Holdco hospital sale via the parking agreement has come undone
before the special meeting tonight.

At the City Council meeting last Wednesday night, an intriguing exchange occurred on the subject of public safety and what result occurs if the budget busting bomb is deployed.  Councilwoman Terry Castellano the T and e in MORTe was pleased with herself to raise the issue knowing as she said the answer.

Breaking: According to a story appearing in the Jersey Journal, the State of NJ via its Department of Community Affairs (DCA) corrected the false reports there is anything illegal in Hoboken’s continuation of a 99 year lease under the new owners of the hospital, Holdco.  The original contract for the 99 years was set up in 2007.
