City Council – Business Administrator up @ 7:00

Tonight’s City Council meeting will be anti-climatic after the Kids First sweep last night unless you can grandstand on the credentials of a potential Business Administrator this town absolutely must have before regaining its sovereignty from the State.

Not much excitement on the resolutions list other than that item.  You can find the agenda here. Details of the resolutions including Arch Liston’s resume are available here. Review his resume if for no other reason than to understand why the inside word is he stood heads and tails above the other candidates. Read More...

One seat up in the air now.  A review of third place will have to be conducted.
There are questions though as these numbers are lower than the late tally last night.

Dead even race for third seat on Hoboken school board
By The Jersey Journal
April 21, 2010, 12:13AM

With the machine and vote-by-mail ballots tallied the race for the third seat on the Hoboken school board appeared to be dead-even between incumbent Rose Marie Markle and newcomer John Madigan.

This race is probably heading for a recount or could be determined by provisional or emergency ballots used at the polls. All else fails, there could be a runoff. Read More...

BoE Election Update – 3 hours left to vote!

There’s been word of some problems with machines in a few locations and provisional ballots were used as a result.  Provisional ballots are counted only at the end of an official count when required in a close election.

Some reported figures on absentee ballots in the 400 range.  This exceed last year’s totals when a strong turnout election yielded in the 300+ range.  Frank Raia although not on the ballot is thought by some to have an operation behind these unusually high totals. Read More...

Cammarano – Guilty of Extortion and Conspiracy

Claire Moses at Patch.com reported on the scene of the Cammarano appearance in Federal Court today.  Sentencing for his crimes pleading guilty to extortion and conspiracy will likely fall somewhere between 24 and 30 months according to a recommendation from US Attorney Paul Fishman’s office.

Sentencing will be in August. Here’s a video of how it went down last summer at the City Hall protest. Even passing rainstorms didn’t temper the crowds.

Today is election day for the Board of Education in Hoboken.  The sun is looking brighter already.  Word on the street is Peter Cammarano had earlier voted by absentee ballot.  We’re waiting to see if an unhinged BoE member will claim to have received an endorsement. Read More...

Election Day Guests of the Stable

It’s election day in Hoboken for the school board race.  Some late submissions have arrived and accordingly we’ll give them the Guest of the Stable treatment.  The first is from Greg Lincoln, the next Hoboken friend Dean Kemph, and last Councilman Ravi Bhalla.  The only message MSV endorses today though is get out and vote.

Dear Hoboken Friends and Neighbors,

On Tuesday is an important election for the Hoboken Board of Education. I would like to ask you to do three small things that will not take a lot of your time: Read More...

BREAKING: Peter Cammarano – “I’m guilty”

Just minutes ago The Star Ledger reported that ex-mayor Peter Cammarano will plead guilty to corruption charges tomorrow in Newark.

Congratulations to the boys of summer at Club Fed in Newark for a job well done.
The city of Hoboken extends its congratulations and gratitude.

In an earlier Mile Square View exclusive, Da Horsey reported on a conversation Peter Cammarano had with a counselor in an uptown coffee shop this year.  In it, he recounts how his wife hoped “I will fold.”

Dateline: April 19, 2010 – Cammarano has folded.

Grist for the Mill: BoE Special Election Edition

Lots and lots of rumors flying around with the GOTV (get out the vote) efforts to reach voters now.  Maureen Sullivan who originally “resigned” from her slate allies in a public letter to the local paper is now complaining Mayor Zimmer didn’t speak to her before again endorsing Kids First.  Funny, she had no problem with it the previous year when it helped propel her to a seat on the Board after her earlier failed effort.  Even better over the weekend Maureen Sullivan was hitting the voters by phone.  Not in actual phone conversations but with robocalls.  Just the way Ms. Sullivan likes the conversation – one way.
