Assemblyman Ramos sponsors bill to curtail employee credit checks

Office of Assembly Democrats announce:

RAMOS & TUCKER BILL TO PROTECT EMPLOYEES FROM UNNECESSARY CREDIT CHECKS MOVES FORWARD

(TRENTON) – Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Ruben J. Ramos Jr. and Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker to prohibit employers from requiring credit checks as a condition of employment is advancing toward law.
“We all know this is a tough economy, but in most cases I see no legitimate reason for making a credit check a condition of employment,” said Ramos (D-Hudson). “Let’s be fair here and require credit checks only when an employee will be working in a job that’s financial in nature. In other cases, it just simply isn’t necessary and is quite simply unfair.” Read More...

Twitter Wars! Mayor Zimmer challenges Ruben Ramos on ‘exploitation of HHA residents’

Is it something in the water, because Mayor Dawn Zimmer just came out standing up for the Hoboken Housing Residents saying the Assemblyman “Reuben Ramos needs to” as well.

Although the Occhipinti campaign would like any more light on the election to go away, Mayor Zimmer comments criminal referrals by the Hudson County Board of Elections have been made.

MSV had heard of one person working in support of Tim Occhipinti in the Housing Authority would face such an outcome for election fraud. Read More...

City Council Post Mortem

All the signs are there for bad things to come. First, Jersey Journal reporter Katie Colaneri captures Councilman David Mello saying he was offended his name was on a tombstone set up at the Russo Halloween event this past weekend. He asks for an apology. Councilman Russo and Councilwoman Castellano refuse. Some rich hypocrisy from an Occhipinti campaign worker/Hoboken411 ghostwriter took the cake with comments about post-election behavior during the City Council public portion and then attacks on Hoboken residents outside directly after. That story is coming. (Trust me truth is stranger than fiction.) The tension in the room was interesting in that all the bitterness and invective seemed to be coming from the Occhipinti supporters. At one point MSV spoke to a regular council watcher and said are you picking up on this? It wasn’t just what went on up front, although Councilman Mike Russo was especially nasty even more than usual. In the crowd it was worse. A well known campaign supporter of Tim Occhipinti was overheard saying in a clear audible voice, “effin scumbag,” when Ravi Bhalla was actually congratulating Tim Occhipinti on his election win. I’ve never seen a group of more angry, bitter, disgruntled winners. Let’s put it this way. Victory has done nothing to assuage the upset caused by putting a modicum of light on what has transpired during this election. In fact, it’s created the opposite effect. Patricia Waiters made some comments about intimidation and the attacks on her and family. There was smirks and grimaces among the Occhipinti backers as she detailed her upset with the targeting. She lamented where would it end? MSV doesn’t wish to overstate this but it’s fairly clear there’s some serious problems in this town. It’s not just the wanton flagrant violation of election rules, it’s just short now of full all out attempts to intimidate with violence. MSV captured an incident just outside and one can hope it was just an isolated incident. What followed in a disagreement among two individuals turned into something else as the little angry Hoboken411 minion started to shoot invective toward two individuals in the reform community. Neither of them had involvement in the words between the other two people. That didn’t stop him from showing how deep hypocrisy runs. Minutes earlier he was moralizing about how the election is over and… it’s simply off the charts. That story and video will come tomorrow. Last, this past week after we broke “The Anomaly” story of Tim Occhipinti’s paid ‘campaign workers’ on his ELEC seems to have caught on in a big way. Readership skyrocketed this past week with thousands of readers in the the last couple of days alone. The jump has been like nothing we’ve seen before. Corruption really captures the keen interest of the people in Hoboken. (Too bad Hudson County doesn’t share it. More on that later.) Speaking of anomalies, the Jersey Journal highlighted earlier the latest off the charts vote by mail totals adding to The Anomaly. Here’s the breakdown: =&0=& – 390 =&1=& – 34 That’s right nothing to see here, move along. Several people we spoke to had different reactions about this. One senior political watcher noted our concern saying how do you explain something like this in a one off small ward election? He noted “He’s right,” as another observer expressed concern about Hudson County tossing out a vote by mail ballot of a woman who died. Riddle me this, how many out of that 390 do you think are ‘campaign workers?’ =&2=&: MSV is forced to admit we profited from this election. A buddy who is a new City Council observer made a friendly wager for dinner and drinks over the controversial vote by mail absentees long before the election. He was convinced Councilman Mike Lenz would generate a significant paper vote total and Da Horsey was sure of the opposite. So each side set their stakes. His prediction was Mike Lenz would have 201 or better vote by mail (absentee) ballots. Da Horsey predicted Tim Occhipinti would come in with 301 or more in a very large scam on the Hoboken electorate. Thanks for being a good sport about it buddy. MSV wishes to thank you for making this website part of your Hoboken life. We’re particularly grateful for all the recent emails and positive feedback of support from readers. This is the truest and best reward.

Beth Mason – I vanna be President

Here comes the result of yesterday’s election and it begins with the new and improved councilwoman Beth Mason.  The word is she wants to be City Council President and bump off current City Council President Carol Marsh who hasn’t been there long and is doing a fine job.

Impact from the loss of Mike Lenz begins tonight and Tim “I’m independent” has to begin paying his handlers.  Expect there to be a brawl on Occhipinti being seated as there’s 500  paper ballots twisting in the wind – the ballots have not been reviewed nor the election certified. Read More...

Initial review and looking ahead on the 4th ward special election

The election results last night produced some surprises, some good, some bad and some very ugly.  For Tim Occhipinti, the warning was clear – there’s major problems with over 500 absentee/vote by mail ballots showing up in a small isolated Hoboken fourth ward election.  He managed to get over the line of the most glaring fraud leading by 50 votes on the machines.

Occhipinti won the election with a combination of old guard forces pooling behind a huge outlay of street money.  Is this the same Tim Occhipinti who spoke against street money appearing in the 2001 ELEC for Mike Lenz?  It is indeed.  How does he explain it? Read More...

Video from Lenz for Council last night

Here is video obtained from last night’s Lenz for Council campaign. Councilman Mike Lenz concedes the election and talks about the next round of City Council elections in May. He also addresses the problems epidemic in this election saying the rules need to apply in Hoboken and “people have to be held accountable” for breaking the law.

Mayor Zimmer also speaks and addresses the campaign attendees thanking Councilman Lenz for his help carrying a lot of difficult work through on the budget and overall. She also thanks everyone out there who fought to get people to the polls. Read More...

Mayor Zimmer weighs in on 4th ward election

Dear Friends,

Thank you all for supporting Mike Lenz as my 5th vote for
moving our City forward, and thank you to Mike Lenz for
your dedicated service to our City.

Although the Lenz campaign, thanks to leadership by Campaign
Manager Sam Briggs, held strong in 4-2 and 4-1, the campaign
was defeated significantly in the Housing Authority. This was
disappointing to me for several reasons. Obviously I am concerned
about losing a 5th vote on the Council and must be up front with
saying that the next 7 months will be quite challenging with
getting things done for our City. Read More...

Occhipinti declaring victory, Lenz not conceding

With over 500 vote by mail ballots in dispute, there’s not much doubt the numbers after challenges will still be favorable to Tim Occhipinti. He’s declaring victory and calling it a victory for the fourth ward but Councilman Mike Lenz has not conceded.

Lenz is quoted on NJ.com as saying there was cheating. It’s not clear what he will do and when he might decide to make additional comment, but earlier he said, “I’m looking at al the options. I’m neither conceding nor not conceding. There was a big margin, but there was a lot of cheating.” Read More...

Mayor Zimmer announces revitalized Hoboken Police Department

Office of the mayor announces:

=&0=& The Zimmer Administration is announcing a series of actions and initiatives, including a police redeployment plan, that save taxpayers money, enhance community safety, and avoid the layoffs of police officers through retirements and the previously announced interlocal agreement with the Hoboken Housing Authority. “Today, I am proud to announce that we are achieving the cost savings our taxpayers need while improving safety and avoiding layoffs. From the beginning, I’ve stated that each retirement submitted will save an officer from being laid off. Everyone in our community wins, and I am incredibly thankful to everyone who worked constructively over the past few weeks to make this happen,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “I want to be very clear: This was never about political agendas. This is about doing what’s in the best interest of all of the people of Hoboken.” Mayor Zimmer’s redeployment plan, which was developed with and embraced by Police Chief Falco, reorganizes the Police Department to be as efficient and effective as possible and ensures resident safety by dramatically increasing on-street patrols. “Through redeployment and civilianization of certain positions, we are drastically increasing the number of police personnel assigned to patrol Hoboken‘s streets by 38 percent from 72 to 99 officers,” said Mayor Zimmer. Additionally, in order to enhance community safety when activity is highest and restaurants and bars are crowded with residents and visitors, a power shift will be instituted increasing patrol coverage by up to 16 officers between the hours of 8pm and 4am. The plan calls for technology upgrades to police vehicles and phones, substantial improvements to the fleet, and begins discussions regarding a new Police building. On Wednesday, September 22, the Housing Authority unanimously approved an interlocal agreement established between the Administration and Housing Authority Executive Director Garcia. The agreement, which also calls for the creation of a Public Safety Resident Council, will improve safety for area residents, save taxpayers money, and save five police jobs. “I’m very pleased that through my Administration’s initiatives with the Police Department, police unions, and the Housing Authority, we were able to realize the cost savings we need to potentially avoid any officers losing their job,” said Mayor Zimmer. “In addition to the five jobs saved through the Housing Authority Bureau, we have already accepted the retirements of five police officers and the written commitment of an additional seven officers to retire by December 1st.” The Administration has learned that an additional officer on disability will not be returning to the force. =&1=&
