HHA Chair: Transparency actions added to our meetings

From the desk of HHA Chairman Jake Stuiver:

Going forward, the Hoboken Housing Authority will be making its entire
agenda and resolutions to be voted on available for public view as far
in advance of our monthly meetings as possible. Our meetings are
usually the second Thursday of each month, and commissioners typically
receive agenda packets the Friday before each upcoming meeting. We
will make every effort to get this information online that Friday or
the following Monday at the latest. These materials can be viewed at
myhhanj.com/board%20meetings.html along with information and minutes
from past meetings. The materials for our Aug. 16 meeting are not up
quite yet but will be by end of business Monday.

In conjunction with publicizing our action items in advance of the
meetings, we will be adding a second public-comment portion to our
meetings in which people can sign up to speak on specific action
items. This portion will be held toward the beginning of the meeting
so that members of the public may speak on action items before the
board votes, so that commissioners will have an opportunity to hear
public input, and people will have an opportunity to offer different
perspectives that may sway our opinions before voting. We will
continue to have a general public-comment portion on any variety of
matters toward the end of each meeting, and I will ask that members of
the public hold their general comments until that portion and use the
earlier comment time only for specific action items.

Over the coming months, we will continue to make improvements to our
website and add more public documents and subcommittee-meeting
schedules in order to facilitate and encourage more public input and dialogue. Read More...

FBI to Hoboken: You’re completely surrounded, come out with your hands up!

With all the Harridan of Hudson Street SLAPP happy inferences of late, one could forget there are higher powers than one menace with access to a checkbook acting on any number of nefarious enterprises against the Hoboken community.  Some Boys of Summer news hit this week and unlike the NJ capital of Trenton, this is right in our backyard.

On Wednesday many may have not noticed the Boys of Summer struck with an arrest presenting a long list of charges against a North Bergen HHA official.  He’s facing 20 years and charges quite similar to ex-mayor and felon Peter Cammarano.  He however will not be graduating with the Class of 2009 as those in “The Jersey Sting.”

Not to worry, the Hudson County School of Corruption continues to churn out graduates at a steady clip and they are supported by a sturdy group of like minded political operatives who revel in offering comfort to one another as they target taxpayer loot and sometimes the taxpayers themselves.

On Thursday, the current mayor of West New York, Felix Roque was indicted according to a spokesman from the Newark Federal Attorney’s Office.  Those charges are pending and should be announced as early as today.
So why is this important Horsey?  Well desperate people are known to do desperate things.
From where we’re sitting, the Feds have struck repeatedly in recent months covering Jersey City (DCIA), Union City (HHA) and West New York. Read More...

Beth Mason’s legal threat a SLAPP at Hoboken?

Here’s the video of the last City Council meeting where a request to make the records public of Beth Mason’s Civic League “charity” led her to announcing “the verge of legal action.”

Listen to Da Horsey’s request and watch the first thing that comes out of Beth Mason’s mouth.

Perhaps the media will ask Beth Mason why her strange response here when asked to make records public on her two year old Mason Civic League charity that she is required to file with the IRS annually? Read More...

The Old Guard welcome back Michael Schaffer

The rumor of yesterday’s downtown party did in fact take place but this is a true grist for the mill rumor update, not just an earwitness rumor report. As it turns out, it’s Michael Schaffer who was man of the hour.  The party was a collection of his Old Guard pals including the one and only Al Arezzo welcoming him back. Sorry Al, but MSV still doesn’t see you coming back. We’ll see if there’s some additional details of interest to this story.

Peter Cammarano bagman Michael Schaffer released from federal prison

MILE SQUARE VIEW EXCLUSIVE

July 5th, 2012

Michael Schaffer the former Second Ward City Councilman and North Hudson Sewerage commissioner has been released from federal prison based on information from the Federal Bureau of Prisons website and eyewitness accounts in Hoboken.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, Schaffer was released June 27th.

Schaffer, 61 and a resident of Maxwell Place served more than a year of a 18 month sentence for his role in acting as the bagman for Peter Cammarano’s mayoral campaign in 2009 where he netted $25,000 in multiple exchanges with FBI informant Solomon Dwek. Read More...

Grist for the Mill: Al Arezzo’s Back!

File this one as back from the dead but not in the way some expect.  Al Arezzo the former Construction Office official who’s reign of terror caused much gnashing of teeth in Hoboken returned to town yesterday.

He did not return to the Construction Office Monday. Instead, a tipster says Al and his construction office cronies had a midday party at the Knights of Columbus on lower Adams Street.  The party was in his honor and no doubt the excitement set off another round of “Al is coming back next week” rumors we’ve been hearing since last fall. Only that would not be true and there’s no interest here in giving hope to the Old Guard who cherish such a thought. As this story doesn’t have enough confirmation to even make the grist, we’re going to put it in the Earwitness Rumor Grafix Avenger file.  We relished the thought of attending just to hear Al’s infamous foul mouth but conflicts didn’t permit making Al’s Monday midday celebration. MSV is sticking to its earlier stories Al ain’t ever coming back.

Update: A commenter who may be a pal of Al’s says he’s in fact coming back.
In addition, the commenter says Al will be contacting MSV.  We’re excited with this development.

But we still don’t think Al’s coming back.

==== The weekend paper decided to review some of the foes lining up to take on an expected run against Mayor Dawn Zimmer.  There’s no shortage of bravado among the Old Guard, but coherency, that’s another matter. Everyone needs a little help now and then and perhaps some external forces will offer aid. The objective for the Old Guard is to identify a candidate after Labor Day but there’s a monkey wrench in that plan with petitions on the street to have Hoboken voters decide if November next year and thereafter is the will of the people for municipal elections. So far the dog days of August have made the work a humid slog but Da Horsey ran into several in our random travels this past weekend and one last night.  The question uptown was, is it true, has Franz Paetzold gotten on board to “Let the People Decide?” The Old Guard has been very silent about the petitions and except for some adherents complaints about higher turnout (no joke) and the one time extension of the mayor and at-large council seats, they appear at a loss what to say, let alone do. Vijay Chaudhuri reported that every person who contacted him has been successfully signed up.  Vijay said he enjoyed going around town and meeting the MSV fans.  He invited people to go ahead and contact him for another round of petition signing and email your number at

The Hoboken Journal joins the petition drive

The Hoboken Journal is back in the fray and looking to aid in the petition drive to give voters the choice when to hold its municipal elections.  The Jolly Green Giant will be collecting petitions in midtown on his home block in front of 807 Garden between 7:00 and 9:00 tonight.

From THJ:

In an effort to help with this drive if you are a registered voter in Hoboken and reside here currently (or even if you are not registered) feel free to stop by at 807 Garden Street tonight between 7-9pm and sign both petitions. If I am not outside ring buzzer #6 and I will come down. Alternately you can call me at 917-543-1187 or email me kurt.gardiner@gmail.com. In signing both petitions you simply allow them to get on the ballot and let the people decide if we should move elections to November and/or eliminate the unnecessary run off elections. Hopefully some of you will find my midtown location convenient.

The petitions seek two important things:

1. Move the Hoboken municipal election from May to the general November election; and
2. Eliminate the run-off election, with the highest vote-getters being declared the winners.

These are petitions whose time has come:

1. Increase voter turnout! By having the election in November, it will encourage greater voter turnout. People know that voting in general elections in November are important, and the bigger the turnout, the fairer the election.
2. Reduce voter fatigue! Never again, will we have so many elections in a single year!
3. Reduce costs to taxpayers! By consolidating elections, we will save the taxpayers money. Each election costs more than $75,000. This year, the Board of Education elections were moved to November. Let’s keep the momentum going and move the municipal elections to November too!
4. Reduce the costs to the candidates! By having not just one, but two municipal elections (the first round and the run-off), the costs are extraordinary. As a result, too often the candidates need to be independently wealthy, or beholden to special interests that expect payback after election day.

The deadline is looming and petitions are due on August 15th and about 1500 signatures are needed to ensure there is the correct number of approved petition signatures for both petitions.

Former Councilman Michael Lenz on the assault on him and his family

In the March story, former Councilman Michael Lenz sought redress in a story posted on Hoboken411 claiming he had designs on the City’s Business Administrator position and was the target of racist accusations by a Hudson County employee.  He sent a letter to all the respective parties among them Councilwoman Beth Mason who has run her political operations on the iron fisted censored website that doesn’t permit any of its victims even an opportunity to respond. In a phone interview, Lenz addressed the situation since he sent out the letters.  “I think their silence speaks volumes.  They had no basis for their charges.  If they did they would have reiterated the charges.” Speaking to the current situation Lenz would add, “They have been put on notice.  If they repeat the charges, they would only be exposing themselves.”

Hoboken411 and its fascist hit squad responded the following month with a savage attack on Laura Keating, a Hoboken resident and IT specialist.  What was the claim against this resident?  Hoboken411 said she was a candidate for the Business Administrator position with no evidence.

It was never explained why an IT professional would even be applying for a BA position in the City of Hoboken and of course the iron fisted censorship Hoboken411 is famous for remained steadfast to prevent Laura Keating (or anyone) from responding. Read More...

Witness: Mason employee “caught” on video in voter fraud

=&0=& =&1=& =&1=& As MSV has awaited public developments like most everyone in dual investigations by the Attorney General’s Office and the FBI in Newark, a video claiming witnesses to voter fraud was taken in City Hall during a City Council meeting last September. Hoboken resident Patricia Waiters frustrated with being interrupted while speaking as a member of the public at the meeting took her grievance to the person she felt was the source of the problem. The ongoing argument outside of chambers grew heated with Waiters informing the other person he had been captured on video attempting to coerce a senior citizen to vote by mail (paper ballot) presumably with instructions on how to fill out the ballot available so as to filter out the “noise.” Waiters responds to what she describes as terroristic threats and the alleged vote fraud perpetrator “getting in her face” earlier (before our video was running) by revealing the information bluntly saying, “You’ll be the first one in handcuffs.” The person Waiters is breaking the bad news to?  It’s none other than=&4=&=&5=&… =&6=&

Talking Ed Note: The video includes others figures such as a gray haired Michele Russo standing at times alongside Matt Calicchio who he indicated at trial as someone he attends government meetings with according to his testimony in his Union City Municipal Court harassment case.

At the 40 second mark of the video watch what Michele Russo does.  Count how many times she motions Waiters to be quiet.  Hint, it’s more than three.

MSV believes the evidence of the allegations made regarding the earlier video of a Hoboken senior in coerced voter fraud has been forwarded to authorities. Read More...

Whatever happened to Beth Mason’s confessed FBI correspondence?

A year ago last June, Councilwoman Beth Mason made several very odd remarks surrounding her participation in her communications with the FBI.

Councilwoman Carol Marsh apparently surprised by her comments asked if she would make it public.  The controversial comments were made as part of Mason’s criticism against the State DCA’s refusal to approve the error riddled budget she submitted in her brief reign as council chair.

The State declined to make the approval citing numerous clearcut financial errors forcing the Hoboken City Council to make the corrections in July when lame duck Councilman Nino Giacchi would be replaced by Councilwoman Jen Giattino. More curious than the obvious intent to leave the City of Hoboken helpless to any extraordinary expense whatsoever was a statement Councilwoman Beth Mason made defending her criticism of the DCA. =&0=& who she repeatedly claimed was willing to agree with her request to make thousands of emails public under investigation. Councilwoman Carol Marsh expressed interest in seeing the correspondence on both.  Mason twice enthusiastically expressed a willingness to provide that correspondence. Here’s the actual unedited 17 second video clip:

So why hasn’t Councilwoman Mason made public her FBI correspondence?
=&2=& =&3=&: Like so many questions surrounding Beth Mason and her charity with political people on the payroll, in regards to the Mason Civic League, the pile grows ever higher. Outstanding questions on her role in the Data Theft Conspiracy at City Hall are outstanding even with her confession to MSV July 1st of last year. When asked outside City Council chambers at the conclusion of the meeting if she had seen =&4=& under FBI investigation, Beth Mason replied: =&5=&
