HHA Chair: Transparency actions added to our meetings

From the desk of HHA Chairman Jake Stuiver:

Going forward, the Hoboken Housing Authority will be making its entire
agenda and resolutions to be voted on available for public view as far
in advance of our monthly meetings as possible. Our meetings are
usually the second Thursday of each month, and commissioners typically
receive agenda packets the Friday before each upcoming meeting. We
will make every effort to get this information online that Friday or
the following Monday at the latest. These materials can be viewed at along with information and minutes
from past meetings. The materials for our Aug. 16 meeting are not up
quite yet but will be by end of business Monday.

In conjunction with publicizing our action items in advance of the
meetings, we will be adding a second public-comment portion to our
meetings in which people can sign up to speak on specific action
items. This portion will be held toward the beginning of the meeting
so that members of the public may speak on action items before the
board votes, so that commissioners will have an opportunity to hear
public input, and people will have an opportunity to offer different
perspectives that may sway our opinions before voting. We will
continue to have a general public-comment portion on any variety of
matters toward the end of each meeting, and I will ask that members of
the public hold their general comments until that portion and use the
earlier comment time only for specific action items.

Over the coming months, we will continue to make improvements to our
website and add more public documents and subcommittee-meeting
schedules in order to facilitate and encourage more public input and dialogue.
