With the old guard forces aligning and the fourth ward being their best chance to at least temporarily stop the steam roller of reform victories in Hoboken, forces near and far are gathering to make a stand. Dear Roman,
This past Wednesday the Hoboken city council unanimously adopted a budget which included:

  • Cutting Taxes by 5%, the most permitted by law.
  • Ending the practice of accelerated tax sales, which hurts taxpayers and costs the city revenue
  • Elimination of the use of One Shot revenues
  • Establishment of a reserve for tax appeals.

 
All this was  just over three months into this transition year, after threefull days of public hearings and the most open budget process Hoboken has ever seen.  Even better, the retention of a reasonable surplus puts us on a track to improve our bond rating and fix the cost of paying the debt on our municipal garage at close to a million doller a year savings over what we had been paying.
A 5% tax decrease is a good start, but we need to keep moving forward on lowering the tax burden.  In the spring, we will begin to work on our 2011 budget and as head of the Finance Committe I am proud to stand with Mayor Zimmer and the Council Majority to do the hard work and make the tough decisions we need in order to keep bringing down taxes.  By working together, we will continue to make Hoboken an even better city for everyone.

City of Hoboken announces:

UPDATE ON SINATRA DRIVE ROAD COLLAPSE

A major roadway collapse occurred shortly after 4pm today on Sinatra Drive near 13th Street. There have been no injuries as a result of the collapse. According to the County engineer, additional portions of the road are expected to collapse due to the tides.

This road was built by Hudson County and the sidewalk and pier were built by Applied Housing, and they will be working together to repair the road. Hoboken’s City engineer will be involved in the process to ensure that the repairs are completed as expeditiously as possible. The costs of repairs will not be the responsibility of the City of Hoboken. Read More...

Upper Sinatra problem with roadway collapse

=&0=& Due to a roadway collapse, Sinatra Drive between 12th Street and 14th Street is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The City’s engineer has been notified of the situation and is on route to the location. Additional information will be provided when it is available. Update: Ferries are being rerouted to Southern Hoboken until engineers can evaluate the situation. There have been no injuries as a result of the collapse.

Operation Bounty snags first violator in food for vote buying scam

In a shocking example of clear election fraud, MSV has obtained an exclusive photo of a voter being bought and paid before the November 2nd special election.  This electoral vote buying for votes, known in Hoboken as street money was slightly altered with the recipient being paid and fed – in food!

To our great sadness, the offender has turned out to be none other than our colleague at the Hoboken Journal, the jolly green giant!

Tim Occhipinti’s campaign announces his own ‘truth’ on campaign website

In an election, lots of things are said about different issues and the Occhipinti campaign has decided to provide a list of areas it feels are not actually representative of its position.  Here’s a list of some items they’ve posted on their website.  One of them MSV brought to Team Tim’s attention and asked for clarification.

That invitation like some earlier direct invitations to the candidate were ignored.  Tim’s truth squad prefers among its favored media, censored outlets such as Hoboken411.  There his campaign has no issue with the truth or free speech.  That’s concerning but MSV won’t make it damning.  Candidates have a way of doing that themselves.
