City of Hoboken announces:

Free Garage Parking for Residents in Flood-Prone Areas

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from 3pm this afternoon until 3am Monday, August 22. The City of Hoboken is providing free parking in all municipal garages through Monday, August 22 at 8am for residents who reside in flood prone areas and have a valid Resident parking permit or Temporary parking permit placard. Storms may produce large hail and strong winds.

City Council approves hospital settlement paving way for sale to Holdco

In a party line 5-3 vote, the City Council cleared the way for the State to finalize a sale of Hoboken University Medical Center to Holdco next month by agreeing to a settlement on an outstanding $1.9 million owed to the City.

In agreeing to settle the almost two million dollar balance between the hospital management arm and the City, Holdco will be able to proceed with the purchase as explained by the attorney Paul Hollander who was retained to represent the City’s interest.

It’s unknown what the terms of the settlement on the outstanding debt to the city is until after a filing Friday with the court. Read More...

Ruben Ramos relinquishes Holdco connected $5,200 campaign donation

Assemblyman Ruben Ramos has told PolitickerNJ he is donating $5,200 he received from the potential buyers of the local hospital to charity.

The story details the Assemblyman’s acceptance of the donation from two individuals connected to the potential buyer of the hospital, Bayonne’s Holdco.  Ramos accepted two maximum $2,600 contributions from the parents of one of  Holdco’s buying group, Vivek Garipalli.

No other local Hoboken official is known to have accepted any monies from anyone connected with Holdco, the anticipated buyer of Hoboken University Medical Center. Read More...

Special City Council Meeting tonight @ 7:00

The hospital is the point of the special meeting called by the mayor and the City is looking to have approved a legal contract so it can pursue the roughly $2 million it’s owed.

The law firm proposed is Okin, Hollander & DeLuca who would be representing the city in bankruptcy actions against Hudson Healthcare Inc., the management arm of the hospital.

A lawyer from the firm should be on hand during the meeting to answer any number of questions on the matters at hand.

Grafix Avenger asks, “What about THOSE bugs?”

It’s summer in Hoboken and August has brought a lot of people much needed vacation time but MSV has taken notice many are still keeping abreast of the local happenings.

Mayor calls special council meeting on the hospital tomorrow @ 7:00

Mayor Zimmer has called for a special meeting of the City Council on several hospital related issues tomorrow @ 7:00.

There’s several items here and the second is regarding litigation in closed session.  As the hospital’s management arm declared bankruptcy, Hoboken will be in line for almost $2 million in outstanding obligations, about half to the Parking Authority.

The City is looking to set up a legal contract to engage that issue.  There’s also a settlement portion here but it’s unclear as to the details. Read More...

Pearson Education moving to Hoboken?

Pearson Education a NJ based company in upper Saddle River is rumored to be looking for a new home in the Garden State.  As part of a state tax incentive, this one comes in at a whopping $90 million, Pearson would need to select a new home near one of nine transportation hubs.

According to a story on North Jersey.com, the word on the street is it’s Hoboken.

It’s estimated the Bergen County based company employes 1,100 people.  The potential destination for many of those jobs and the local spending that would come with it is River St. Read More...

NHSA addresses recent Hoboken flooding

August Flooding in Hoboken
=&1=& From August 8th to 15th, the Authority’s service area was hit very hard by torrential rain storms,
resulting in severe flooding in certain sections of Hoboken and, to a lesser extent, in “The
Shades” area of Weehawken. In Hoboken,

the intersections around Harrison and First Street,
Jackson and 4th Street, and Madison and 9th Street experienced the worst of the street flooding,
especially on August 14th when an incredible 5.81 inches of rain fell in a 19 hour period,
beginning at 1:50 AM.

Frank "Pupie" Raia led petition drive threatens move of municipal elections to November

On Friday petitions numbering 3710 of approximately 2200 required were submitted to the City Clerk’s office to invalidate the recent approval by the City Council to shift municipal elections from May to November. Mayor Zimmer also supported moving municipal elections to November.

A successful petition would place the matter of November elections on the ballot for a vote this fall.

The effort which began almost as soon as the proposed move passed in a 5-4 vote at the last City Council meeting means the expected higher turnout in a November election would likely be thwarted. Read More...
