Here is a brief video from the Reach Higher Campaign Kickoff on Sunday.

The candidates addressing the audience at Hot House are BoE trustee Tom Kleupfel who is running for a second three year term and his running mates, Sheillah Dallara and Addys Velez.

Talking Ed Note: It’s unclear at this time if the Reach Higher team will face an opposing slate. If one emerges, it will likely be led by first time BoE candidate Brittany Montgomery who was a council at-large candidate with Frank “Pupie” Raia in 2013. Read More...

Jen Giattino 6th ward kickoff video

Here’s a short exclusive video courtesy of John Heinis of the Hudson County View at the Jen Giattino kickoff.

Councilwoman Jen Giattino is running for re-election in the sixth ward against lame duck Assemblyman and former Hoboken Housing Authority ED Carmelo Garcia.

In the video, Giattino discusses her commitment to serving Hoboken residents and in an introduction, a friend notes how even with her home seeing great harm as so many others in Hurricane Sandy, Jen Giattino was out working to help others harmed in the disaster.

Talking Ed Note: MSV personally witnessed Councilwoman Jen Giattino’s efforts throughout the emergency period following the hurricane. While she had to leave her home for required repairs with her family, Giattino continued working to help neighbors and residents in the sixth ward and beyond. Read More...

Sign of the Times: A view to the other kickoff side

Thursday night a competing kickoff at Lola’s took place for Peter Biancamano who is making his second bid for Hoboken City Council. He previously ran on a ticket with Frank “Pupie” Raia and Britney Montgomery in 2013 with Councilman Tim Occhipinti atop a ticket for mayor.

Thursday night at Lola’s saw some usual opposition to reform in what Grafix Avenger has affectionately named the Darksiders.

Peter Biancamano, (r ), is running as a candidate again for Hoboken’s City Council, this time in the second ward and is seen here with some friends and sixth ward City Council candidate Carmelo Garcia who is running against Councilwoman Jen Giattino.
Britney Montgomery, a former slate mate of Biancamano’s from 2013 for Hoboken City Council joins in the fun at Lola’s Thursday night. She’s a candidate this time for the Hoboken BoE.
Peter Biancamano seen here with perennial local candidate Patricia Waiters.
Waiters known for her bomb throwing racial tirades in City Council and Hoboken Housing Authority meetings is a candidate once again for the Hoboken BoE. She also is a former paid aide on the NJ Assembly payroll of Carmelo Garcia. Happy trails!

More to come.

Reform’s Kickoff Explosion

Yesterday saw not one but two separate Reform camapign kickoffs for November’s critical City Council races: Tiffanie Fisher in the uptown second ward and Councilwoman Jen Giattino in the midtown sixth ward.

There was plenty of political star power to go around. =&0=& attended both Tiffanie Fisher’s and Jen Giattino’s kickoffs demonstrating her investment in candidates who can deliver a strong vision and future for Hoboken.

Hoboken Council President Ravi Bhalla lent his support for Fisher (below) and Councilman at-large Jim Doyle featured prominently at both kickoffs with BoE trustee Tom Kleupfel joining the rounds with his November Board of Ed running mates Addys Velez and Sheillah Dallara.

One local business got behind its council candidate in Tiffanie Fisher in a big way. By Hoboken standards, this is quite an endorsement and the Reform turnount amplified the optimism.
Mayor Dawn Zimmer arrived uptown showing support for Tiffanie Fisher’s second ward run for City Council as Fisher here shares some thoughts with NJ Assemblywoman candidate Annette Chaparro.
Councilwoman Jen Giattino spoke to a packed room of supporters downtown with Mayor Zimmer appearing too. Councilwoman Giattino spoke of her expectation for a challenging campaign as she’s up against Carmelo Garcia who’s well known for dubious ethical and ethnic cleansing legal allegations. Her opponent in Garcia is dually suing Hoboken taxpayers/voters while seeking more of their money into his pockets to “represent” them. (Stop laughing, this is a real election.)

Hoboken Council President Ravi Bhalla expressed his support for Tiffanie Fisher’s City Council run and appears with BoE trustee Tom Kelupfel and Tiffanie Fisher who is surrounded by Kleupfel’s running mates on the BoE, Addys Velez (l) and Sheillah Dallara.

Reform’s turnout was strong and now the real work begins working to get the word out to the grassroots and inform and engage Hoboken voters of the stakes. Read More...

The Hoboken City Council voted 6-3 to issue a $16.7 million bond to help acquire a six-acre piece of land owned by BASF – which will eventually be the site of the Northwest Resiliency Park. The measure caused both Hoboken residents and the council to stand divided.
