… and now Winners & Losers

Friday Da Horsey will pen a column on the Hoboken post election winners and losers.  There’s a long list on both sides but the sweep by Reform means there’s going to be both a house cleaning and a reckoning.

The City has been put through way too much and its people taken once again for granted with the arrogance, petulance, ambition, sheer greed and the total disrespect of our institutions.  Yes, again.

Let’s add high on the list to the obvious group of winners the family of Jim Doyle.  He’ll be returning to the council dais in January and although his low key professionalism won’t say it, there’s going to be a strong rudder guiding that ship. Read More...

Mayor Dawn Zimmer thanks “unbelievable team effort!” in CLEAN SWEEP!

Team Zimmer announces:

Blog      Volunteer      Contribute
Dear Horsey & MSV readers —

We did it!  It was a Clean Sweep thanks to everyone’s unbelievable team effort!  Thank you to everyone who helped to make it happen from making a donation, hosting a meet and greet, knock, knock, knocking on doors and more doors, calling, calling and calling potential voters, writing letters and emails to your neighbors, to standing at the Path and ferry in the freezing cold and rain to GET OUT THE VOTE for the Zimmer Team and Kids First Team!
Thanks so much to the leadership of Mollie Binotto and her amazing core team of Ross, Christian, and Maddy who helped us reach 12,000 people online for FREE with her cool Buzzfeed post.  Thanks so much to Susan Chait for once again bringing her creative expertise to ensure that our message reached voters, and our t-shirts were the MOST visible!

There was a core online and print team working with her and we thank you all for your unending effort to making sure that we clearly got out our message in every way possible!

Now the really exciting work continues and I hope you will all continue to be involved!  We need you for planning the park in the Southwest, we need you for designing a Complete Washington Street, we need you for the Monroe Center and so much more so please stay involved!

Dave, Ravi and I cannot wait to be sworn
in together with Jim Doyle! Congratulations again to the Kids First team of Leon Gold, Irene Sobolov and Jennifer Evans!
Thank you all again!  With your support, we will continue to Lead Hoboken Forward!

Best,
Mayor Dawn Zimmer

Councilman Ravi Bhalla: a moment of “tremendous gratitude”

Councilman-elect Ravi Bhalla announces:

(photo from Jersey Journal)
Dear Neighbor,

I just wanted to take a moment to express my tremendous gratitude for having the opportunity to serve as your Councilman again!  Thank you also for electing Mayor Dawn Zimmer to a second term, re-electing Councilman Dave Mello and electing James Doyle. We won together! With your support, Mayor Zimmer can now work with a City Council that shares her vision for leading Hoboken forward. Whether it’s making Hoboken more flood resilient, balancing our budget, ensuring responsible development, upgrading and acquiring open space and parks, or preserving affordable housing, in 2014 you will see a City Council and Mayor working together on these issues. This election was personally difficult because of the lies and distortions that were spread by Councilwoman Beth Mason.  It placed great strain on me and my entire family. Even my six year old daughter became aware of the attacks on me. Happily, Councilwoman Mason’s attempts at Hudson County-style dirty politics fell flat. The people of Hoboken made their voices heard loud and clear. Again, I am grateful for your support. As always, I am here to listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and assist where possible.  You can always reach me on my personal cell number, 201-647-6090, or via email at councilmanbhalla@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you and again, thank you for your support. Let’s continue the progress together.

Sincerely,    Ravi S. Bhalla Councilman-at-Large City of Hoboken

Old Guard VBM Standoff: Ramos slugged it out to a draw with Raia-Mason slate on Vote by Mail in fourth ward

The rumored war going on in the back of the fourth ward turns out not to have been a rumor after all. The battle of VBMs as it turns out was almost even at election’s end.  In unofficial tallies, the VBM totals are released with the votes on the machines.

Here’s how the out of proportion fourth ward broke down its 397 Vote by Mail ballots.

Raia Mason Ticket: (Occhipinti)   176

Assemblyman Ruben Ramos:       171

Talking Ed Note: Da Horsey is proud to be a member of the Reform movement with so many great people of this City from all walks of life, whether Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, etc.

It is truly an honor to have met and worked with so many of you these past four plus years.  Yesterday MSV set a new record with almost 15,000 visits.  Thank you as always for your time, consideration and support.

For now, good night and good luck.

520 Jefferson St – payoffs for votes?

=&0=& =&1=& =&1=&

Published originally at full gallop on the back streets of Hoboken.

Crowd of almost two dozen, all minority residents at the Raia civic.
Someone who looked like Jamie Cryan arrived on scene went inside.

Crowd is waiting, going in one on one as if they are meeting “the Godfather.”

The game plan apparently is for each individual to be brought in and told to sign an affidavit saying they worked for the campaign as was similarly stated by the 2010 Communications Manager for the Tim Occhipinti campaign David Cruz. Read More...

Wot again!? Yup, City Council denouement @ 7:00

Video streaming by Ustream

Yes boys and girls, it’s that time. At 7:00 the Hoboken City Council follies will commence and already the worst is being expected of the Hoboken Sopranos.  Da Horsey is mighty tired from the election and the blow out party Reform hosted at the Village Pourhouse.

For those of you who are not as exhausted, well here’s the agenda.  Some people are already talking as if it’s a given the ugly attack on Councilwoman Jen Giattino and her family who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy will continue. Read More...

Ballot Question #1 – a “NO” awaiting provisionals

Breaking: Several hundred provisionals to be evaluated and counted Friday.

The new tallies according to some informed sources indicate the Rent Control Question looks to have reversed into a “yes” NO! with 80  99 votes ahead awaiting provisional ballots.

It’s not clear how many provisionals are outstanding but it will take a couple of days to verify each.

Correction: MSV had this reversed and yes it’s been going back and forth.  With sincere apologies: Read More...

Election excerpt: Mayor Dawn Zimmer wins the Fourth Ward

A little sidebar from the election results last night.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer won the fourth ward with 824 votes.
Ruben Ramos came in a close second with 823 votes.
Timmy Occhipinti came in a distant last with 300 votes.

Correction: These figures may not include VBMs otherwise known here as The Devil.
(Wonder how many of Timmy’s “votes” were Vote by Mail votes?)

Who is the current occupant of the fourth ward council seat again?  Just say’in.

Talking Ed Note: Has anyone heard a public word from Timmy?
Perhaps Assemblyman Ramos can have someone call and teach him some manners. Read More...

Ruben Ramos extends gratitude and congratulations

Assemblyman Ruben Ramos announces:

Thank you!
Dear friends,

The election is over and we came up short. But that does not take away from the incredible effort so many of you put in to support myself and my amazing running mates, Laura Miani, Eduardo Gonzalez and Joe Mindak. We all believe in a better vision for Hoboken and it was wonderful to see so many of our friends and neighbors put in so much time making phone calls, walking door to door and spreading the word about our campaign. We tried our best, but in the end it wasn’t meant to be.

Once again thank you all so much — this has been a difficult, energizing and amazing journey for my family and I. While I won’t be your Mayor, I will always work for a better Hoboken for all of us. I congratulate Mayor Dawn Zimmer and her running mates on their victory and wish them the best of luck moving forward.

Thanks,

Ruben
