Horse Sense: The Art of the Deal

In the famous words of U2’s Bono, “There’s been a lot of talk… maybe too much talk” and if you visited the Hoboken NJ.com forum last week, the talk’s been getting quite heated on the question of the Police & Fire union negotiations.  Now we’re not privy to the conversations between the City and the unions and actually have gone out of our way to avoid it when some information has crossed our path.  At the same time, the union negotiations with the police and fire are the obvious very large elephant in the room.  After the Finance Director Dan Trasente presented the 2010 budget, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see where the biggest costs lie in the town’s outlays.  With the State billions in the red, the hospital in town on a respirator and its $62 million bond guarantee hanging like the black plague over Hoboken, reality should be recognized by all sides now.

So what prompted the drama to come up in the forum?  It seems driven from voices sympathetic to the police and fire employees and oddly, it appears to be getter more shrill than usual and the appearance of almost being orchestrated.  At the same time there’s some glimmer of logic discussed about the ratio of supervisors and most interesting some cacophonous fear of arbitration.  We’ll probably see the results once the negotiations are complete or an arbitrator is requested to make a final call.

Nightmare of Roberts Present

John Corea, our former Parking Utility Director under the Dave Roberts and shortly lived Peter Cammarano Administration may now be gone but his spirit lives on. (Mayor Zimmer replaced him with an actual transportation professional, Ian Sacs.) With the holidays upon us, it’s not too soon to celebrate the nightmare of possessed Christmas present brought to you by:
Dave Roberts
Mikie Squared Russo
Terry “I luv the Port Authority” Castellano

It’s hard to believe so much has transpired in 2009 and yet the riches of Christmas have yet to begin.  Although former Mayor Dave Roberts is gone, his spirit lives on in the City Council with the Russo clan.  As we approach the end of 2009, we have the troika of their handiwork to enjoy and savor yet again this Wednesday at the City Council.  Unless of course they had any honor and resigned.  This is Hoboken, that would never happen.

Million Dollar Coin Swindle: The Movie

If you didn’t get riled up enough already with the series of breaking events in the now infamous Hoboken million dollar coin swindle, this may do.  Brought to you courtesy of Ed Mecka, he’s compiled all of the meetings cited in earlier posted pieces here in one video compilation.  Is it time to start asking for resignations?

It’s a fine effort and one we can only lift our glass to and say, “Salute.”

And the Council that “didn’t”

From the NJ.com Hoboken Forum, an interesting post by FactChecker of City Council discussions on the million dollar coin swindle.  These are the original comments as compiled in the original story by the Wile E. Coyote, Eric Kurta:

December 6, 2007 City Council Meeting

Councilman Michael Russo: “Mr. England, I have one, uh, one other revenue source that, uh, has been called into question and – and some of my Council colleagues might know about it, some of them might not. Uh, it looks to, looks to me like there’s a million dollars missing in revenue from our collection in parking meters. This correct?”
Richard England, Business Administrator: “Umm…I don’t know at this point, Councilman.”
Russo: “I think we really need to look into it, uh, I don’t know if it was just not paid to us, I don’t know if it’s actually missing, I don’t know if there was a miscalculation, I have no idea what the circumstances are…”
Council President Theresa Castellano: “Needs to be looked into…”
Russo: “…but it’s my understanding that there, there’s something going on with that revenue stream. If we could get, uh, a look at it and find out so that you can report back to this council.”
England: “Let me check it out and I’ll get back to you as soon as I have an answer.”

December 19, 2007 City Council Meeting Councilwoman Terry Labruno: “I actually want an answer – Mr. Corea can you answer that question about the million dollars that was alluded to at the last – at the last council meeting, about a million dollars being missing from meters?”

The Man Who Knew

Not only does Hoboken411 play fast and loose with the basic decency of the online world, he’ll even change the past authorship ON HIS OWN SITE.

Here’s the image of the original story, written by the one and only Wile E. Coyote, Eric Kurta.  He’s now been erased as the author of the original story.  Another hit job brought to you by the slimey guy of Hoboken himself.  Amazing ain’t it?

Boom, there it is!

Another brick in the Hoboken culture of corruption has just fallen and this time it’s former Parking Utility Director John Corea.  As reported in the Jersey Journal, he’s being cast as a conspirator in stealing the coins from the parking meters.  From the Office of the Attorney General:

“Kidnap” victim fights back!

Update: 5: 40 – Amy Sara Clark at Hoboken Now has a released statement from Jerry Carter’s new lawyer.
A reader, AnonymousFan tipped us off Jerry Carter is now retaining Joseph Hayden, the same lawyer as Peter Cammarano as reported in the Hudson Reporter.

11:35 AM
The lady employee/victim in the Jerry Carter alleged kidnapping case is feeling her oats.  She’s looking for two weeks pay from Jerry Carter and also unspecified damages.  Carter’s attorney states he hasn’t been served or some such non-denial denial.  This is only the beginning.  Some legal beagle found the lady and you can be sure this will have legs.  If Carter takes a hit on any of the kidnap and harassment charges, he’ll be soon facing a very large civil suit from this woman.

And then he’ll rue the day as she alleges, how he made her stay in a bath tub for hours.

Thing about karma is it isn’t entirely without a sense of humor.  And sooner or later, no one is getting away, with anything.  The universe is always watching, always listening.  It’s far larger than human comprehension especially what’s unseen.  Anyone who thinks this blue marble is going unmonitored is just kidding themselves.  Jerry Carter, we enshrine you into the new membership of consciousness and in the famous words of Jim Morrison, “No one gets out alive.”
