Sign of the Times: The clock says the time for shouting is over

Sgt. Ed Drishti who heads the PSOA union for senior Hoboken Police officers leads a chant outside City Hall

The Hoboken police unions held a rally outside City Hall last Wednesday and it’s had at best limited success.  The noise level was impressive of the approximately 200 members spotted but it wasn’t as large as expected.  The rally did not appear to draw in the public as many went about their business as if nothing unusual was going on at all.

Regardless, the time for yelling is over.  Mayor Zimmer’s administration has said retirements brought to the table will offset the 18 scheduled layoffs for this Friday, September 24th.  There’s no more time for posturing, no time for threats or yelling.  It requires more than a handful to save the vitality of Hoboken’s Police Department. Grist for the Mill: Municipal Garage Special Edition

A story on Hoboken Patch released earlier today states the City of Hoboken will be returning to the site of the Municipal Garage.  As much as that would create laughter among many familiar with the concept of karma and the outlandish hypocrisies of the former chairman of the Observer Highway Commission’s role in the garage fiasco, the truth is this isn’t actually the case.

While MSV can confirm the rumor the Municipal Garage site has been undeniably a fallback position for the City, a Patch source saying Hoboken will be moving back to the garage next week is one not actually decided at this point. Read More...

As you know, the announcement of the prospective police layoffs in the City of Hoboken has generated much news in recent weeks.  It is my contention that the debate regarding this matter has been fueled by both politics and emotions. My purpose for writing letter is practical, as I wish to convey my opposition to the proposed layoffs in hopes of achieving a result that will better serve our residents. Read More...

We have the actual poll!

Listen for yourself and ask is it even one percent possible someone other than Beth Mason would be throwing so much garbage against the wall?  Who do you want to believe, Da Horsey or Tom Bertoli, a Jersey City political operative who has done extensive work for Councilwoman Beth Mason including her run for mayor last spring? Project Play goes into overdrive, hits community milestones

Hoboken’s grass roots effort to improve kids play areas in Church Square Park is getting broad appeal.  Last Tuesday the group held an event at the Elysian Cafe with both Mayor Zimmer and former mayor Dave Roberts attending with about 55 other supportive members of the community.

David Liebler of EatDrinkHoboken arranged an innovative program to have local food establishments participate to support the program.  Here’s a new video the group released describing the program.  The want to emphasize respect for the integrity of the park and point out specifically how they won’t alter the character of it. Beth Mason polling her Hoboken exit visa?

Councilwoman Beth Mason is a lead story today on Politickernj but not because she sought out the coverage.  A telephone poll asking numerous questions of residents is raising eyebrows and not only due to the lengthy political questions but also the sheer scope.

Beth Mason who would face strong opposition next spring for the second ward council seat in the most likely form of Hoboken resident Tom Greaney looks to be inquiring on not only her standing but also a Hudson County seat.  One of the questions asked in the poll in how she stands against current County Executive Tom DeGise. Scenes from outside the City Hall Protest

Protestors chanted against Mayor Zimmer making quite a ruckus
Hoboken PBA President interviews with Channel 9 as master of ceremonies Paul Swibinski stands by.
Paul Swibinski of Vision Media is contracted by both the PBA and Councilwoman Beth Mason.

Seniors were brought in on a bus and went into the City Council Chambers.  They took a large amount of the seating during the meeting.  Foxwoods?  No, not the casino the Hoboken senior building.
The union Rat prop made an appearance.  Both sides of the street were cleared of residents vehicles and the rat had a prime safe parking spot outside City Hall.  Here it’s seen circling the block.
Paul Swibinski isn’t saying he’s number one although his 300K in earnings from Hudson County politicos surely must place him at the top of the heap.  Here’s he’s actually signaling to people to move during the protest.
A tale of two cities: a group of protestors walks south on Washington St. while residents head north.  There was no interaction between the protestors and the public witnessed by MSV.  Councilwoman Terry Castellano would most likely describe that indifference as “hatred” for Hoboken born residents.  The true difference: a group largely of civil service and non-taxpaying residents and the other: those paying the freight.
