Pending Board of Election certification: Occhipinti to be sworn in tonight at City Hall

The Hudson County Board of Elections certification for the the 4th ward special election is anticipated shortly, paving the way for Tim Occhipinti to be sworn in as 4th ward councilman tonight at City Hall.

City Clerk James Farina will perform the ceremony tonight at 6:30.

The Jersey Journal notes a “high number of suspicious ballots” and this may lead to further action when forwarded Wednesday to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Green Hop on the fritz

City of Hoboken announces:

Due to mechanical repairs for both the Green Hop and its back-up van, Green Hop service will be suspended until further notice. We regret the inconvenience; however, we insist that the shuttle buses are in top safety condition. Blue Hop, Red Hop, and Senior Shuttle services are not affected by the suspension of Green Hop service. For additional information on the Hop, visit http://hobokennj.org/thehop.

Legal Honeybee sting: ex-mayor Anthony Russo still owes over $300K to Hoboken

Reader Legal Honeybee emailed some interesting documents on the former convicted mayor to Peter Cammarano previous – Anthony Russo who is believed paying off to the City of Hoboken his “restitution” for crimes against the town while mayor.

There’s a little problem with the restitution.  Anthony Russo claimed to gamble away all the proceeds of his ill gotten gains and has paid next to nothing on the ballpark $332,000 owed as part of his conviction.  His barely there payments have lowered it to only about $325,000. Read More...

There’s a new website in Hoboken bringing a new flavor to digging and uncovering waste and corruption in town.  Which means you won’t be hearing about it in other than negative vague attacks by politicians, the old guard and their supporters who view light on such matters as simply unfathomable.

2nd Annual Hoboken Family & Friends Thanksgiving Dinner

A full Thanksgiving meal catered and served for residents of the Hoboken Housing Authority Tuesday, Nov. 23 Seniors will be served from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand Street.  The rest of the Housing Authority community will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the newly renovated community room at 411 Marshall Drive Transportation will be arranged for residents from Fox Hill Gardens and Christopher Columbus Gardens, with details to follow. Hashway’s Deli & Catering of North Bergen will cater the meal, with a menu of the following: Roasted Turkey Breast w/Gravy Mashed Potato, Stuffing, Corn, Cranberry Sauce, Dessert: Rice Pudding Donations are being sought to cover the cost.  For more information or to make a donation, please contact Jake Stuiver at 201-978-8977, or jstuiver@gmail.com. Breaking: Criminal referals to Hudson County prosecutor underway

Katie Colaneri is reporting for the Jersey Journal confirming Mayor Zimmer’s tweet this morning – there’s ballots being turned over to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office from the fourth ward special election.

200 challenges were written up citing numerous problems by the Lenz for Council campaign.  Red flags went up when the Hudson County Board of Elections declined to completely investigate a multitude of problems showing illegal voting.

Even with the a second hand report of “not interested” from the County, 96 ballots have been tossed based on the most cursory review such as signatures not matching, improper custody, etc. Read More...

City updates waterfront walkway with comprehensive historical timeline

City of Hoboken announces:

UPDATE ON WATERFRONT WALKWAY – ADDITIONAL CLOSINGS AND TIMELINE OF EVENTS

Based on guidance from Boswell Engineering, the City’s engineer, Mayor Dawn Zimmer has decided to close additional sections of the waterfront in the interest of public safety. The City Council was informed of the decision on Wednesday evening.

The Waterfront Walkway north and east of the Hudson Tea Building will be closed to pedestrian traffic. Additionally, the short section of the promenade from the southern entrance of Pier A south to Warrington Plaza, which is owned by New Jersey Transit, will also be closed to pedestrian traffic.
