ELEC Analysis – it’s coming

Talking Ed Note: a story with some analysis of the Fourth Ward Special Election should be completed this week.  Some of the story was posted earlier but is being held now until a more complete story is finished.

Will any local media report on any of it?  That is unless arrests are made?
Not to worry, other than the NJ State Attorney’s Office there’s nothing to see here.

Hey, I’m with Tim cuz Tim pays me.

Beth Mason: Attorney General investigation of alleged 4th ward election fraud a ‘waste of time and money’

Here’s a short video clip of Councilwoman Beth Mason making an animated protest against the City Council passing a resolution supporting an investigation of the 4th ward election last month by the Attorney General’s office.  The problems presented by the Hudson County Board of Election’s independent investigation were first passed to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and then from there a decision to forward it on yet again to the New Jersey Attorney General Paula Dow. Editorial Policy Note: Free Speech and Hoboken’s Finest

MSV is a strong advocate of free speech and adamantly believes Hoboken requires and deserves free and open online forums for its citizens to share and exchange thoughts on the issues of the day.

Recently, there’s been a trial in the community on the Hoboken Police Department’s reorganization – a process that has taken place over months.  In the end, our town has fared exceptionally well with a plan agreed back in September between the two Hoboken police unions and the Mayor’s administration, resulting in not one layoff.  This was due to many unsung heroes of the Hoboken Police Department who kept their word to all and followed through with the needed retirements by December 2nd preserving the vitality of the force and its younger officers. Another water main break: uptown Clinton Street

City of Hoboken announces:

=&0=&

According to United Water, there has been an 8″ water main break on Clinton Street near 14th Street. United Water has throttled down the pressure in the main, and as a result, buildings on Clinton Street between 13th Street and 14th Street may experience lower water pressure. United Water is on the scene. To make repairs, the water main will be shut off, and residents are expected to be temporarily without water.

Residents needing water may bring a container to the water buffalo truck which has been ordered and will be parked near 13th Street and Clinton Street, or they may call Councilman Peter Cunningham at 201-562-7071 to request help with water delivery. Hoboken Police, the Office of Emergency Management, Environmental Services, and Councilmembers Carol Marsh and Peter Cunningham are on site to assist residents. Additional information will be posted to the City website (http://www.hobokennj.org) as it becomes available. Read More...

Horse Sense: Castellano and Mason suffer through pro-Corner Cars Hoboken citizenry

Hoboken’s political scene known more for politics and toxicity than effectiveness in certain corners, led to a high speed collision this week on the Hertz Connect Corner Cars program.  After the program’s 4-4 vote and defeat led by the Council of No at the previous council meeting – the program’s situation was one step from being scrapped or scuttled with last Wednesday’s meeting. Hoboken people heard a final showdown was coming and word was spread around town resulting in many local activists coming together along with other members of the public some who had never spoken before the City Council to declare their experience and desire to see the almost 1,000 strong program continue as is. But should it have even been necessary?  When power and craven ambition is your number one agenda item, sure.  If serving Hoboken people appears anywhere on the top of the list, of course not. Sometimes a picture tell a thousand words.  Here’s one taken very early during the stream of Hoboken people appearing one after another to speak on behalf of the Hertz Connect Corner Cars program.  It shouldn’t have been necessary for them to do so considering the success of the program.  But they all blocked major time in their schedule staying and awaiting their opportunity to do so – over hours.   Little says more about the popularity of the short lived program than that.  Sadly they had to face down a gauntlet of opposition from the Mason-Russo junta eager to wield its new found power having installed ‘independent’ Tim Occhipinti into a swing seat last month.  Councilman Nino Giachhi, another self-proclaimed “independent voice,” fell right in line with Occhipinti acting as a fifth vote to block the legally required ordinance up for approval. On this issue, the Council of No Four were blunted – for the moment.  There will be more of this coming as they play politics on a variety of issues taking credit for others hard work and hijacking agendas they previously and vociferously opposed re: parks. It’s only the beginning of the dark, old ways.  =&0=&
Council members Terry Castellano and Beth Mason glumly look on as a stream of residents came to Wednesday’s City Council meeting to speak in favor of the Corner Cars program.  Castellano insulted the intelligence of all of them claiming there was no threat to the program – one she has opposed and sought to scuttle.  Her most recent plan publicly stated was to eject them from corners near residents, a key feature of the program and the reason for its very name: Corner Cars.

Do these Council members look like happy Corner Cars supporters to you?

Mayor’s Office announces additional police retirement reducing demotions

=&0=& The City of Hoboken received an additional unexpected retirement on Wednesday evening before the police demotions took effect at 12:00 am. The retirement will be effective March 31, 2011. Due to bumping rights, this reduces the number of demotions from 12 to 9.

“I’ve said from the beginning that any police retirements would offset the number of demotions, so I’m very pleased that we will need three fewer demotions,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. Read More...

Cunningham and Mello take on the Council of No Four plus Nino Giacchi on Corner Cars

Wednesday night’s City Council meeting was far more than a mere marathon.  It contained elements of raw naked power used for the sake of advancing more naked power and with it of course the spoils from a controversial fourth ward election last month that is over in name only.

With the state’s law enforcement an open question for the moment, the true will of the people is hardly clear, but on the matter of the Hertz Connect Corner Cars, the verdict has clearly arrived.

That a battle could be waged for over three hours over a program the Council of No Four (Occhipinti has now been added to Castellano, Russo and Mason, Giacchi gets to live for another day) in the end claimed to support was farcical.  Three plus hours on a program you support?  Really? Read More...

BREAKING: Street money king and queen: Beth Mason and Tim Occhipinti

The new fourth ward Councilman Tim Occhipinti’s NJ ELEC report after the election is out and it’s a harsh statement on street money.  Before the election, MSV broke the story of “the anomaly,” – every single Occhipinti campaign worker requested a vote by mail ballot and 78 of 79 had returned their ballot and received a $40 payment minimum almost a full week before the election.

Now the worst fears about Occhipinti’s massive street money operation are revealed with page after page of $40 payments to residents of the back corner of the fourth ward in numbers exceeding anything in the history of fourth ward elections! Councilwoman Beth Mason who tried to launch a vicious attack from her seat during the Attorney General resolution against MSV (we’ll get to that later) now will find her own ELEC violations surpassed in the massive operation revealed here.  The question: =&0=& of the massive street money operation to Tim Occhipinti’s “campaign workers?”
Beth Mason’s massive unethical at a minimum $13,400 to Tim Occhipinti enters a new light with his ELEC released to the public.  A review by the Attorney General’s office will certainly finds this information interesting.
A reader doing a cursory review of Tim Occhipinti’s post election ELEC report notes:=&1=&=&2=&73 pages of $40 votes= roughly 445 $40 votes on top of the 79 other $40=roughly  524 $40 votes.”

– The 79 is a reference to “The Anomaly,” in the earlier ELEC report as described by Occhipinti spokesman David Cruz.  (See articles at the top of the page.) Read More...
