Hoboken suffers from large legal bills and it’s been a problem for years with multi-million costs annually. The Hertz Connect program where the city adopted Corner Cars parking spots extension was a knock down drag out affair with the new majority absolutely intent on if not scuttling it and getting the cars off the streets where the public has welcomed them overwhelmingly, then moving to prevent the adoption of a required ordinance for the parking spaces over the balance of the two year contract. (Relocating the cars as needed for more desireable locations around town is permitted by contract.)
This release came via the Hoboken Police Department noticing its participation in a statewide plan over the holidays involving drinking and driving.
OVER THE LIMIT UNDER ARREST 2010 STATEWIDE CRACKDOWN
Law Enforcement Officers from Hoboken will be cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the Holiday Season “Over the Limit Under Arrest 2010 Statewide Crackdown”. Beginning December 6, 2010, and running through January 2, 2011, local and state law enforcement officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.
Folks,
Here’s a recap from last night’s open space presentation from Mayor Zimmer. It was very well attended, and I commend the Mayor for presenting a comprehensive park plan that’s finally well underway. Quite frankly, there’s so much going on with a sincere dedication to increasing open space inventory, and addressing the infrastructure challenges by the Mayor and her Administration, it’s more than a feeling, it’s reality. 1600 Park should be online fall 2011. Particularly with what appears to be full support of the council, I am confident that with your help we can all support this plan which improves our quality of life, our property values and puts the open space trust fund to work for all of us!
This letter comes from a Hoboken resident who wished to convey this message to the community but due to the family sensitivity asked to do so anonymously:
I am writing to you today to tell a bit about CADASIL.
What is CADASIL? Great question. Most people never hear of it unless someone in their family is diagnosed with this rare disease. I am reaching out to you today because someone in my immediate family has recently been diagnosed with this rare genetic disease.
CADASIL is an autosomal dominant gene that causes strokes and cognitive disabilities at a young age. This means – if a parent is affected there is a 50% chance of each child being affected and onset of symptoms is usually from 35-50. Currently there is no treatment, no cure, and really no funding to look for one. But….we can change that!

Office of the Mayor announces:
=&0=&At a community meeting on parks and open space held on Monday evening, Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced her intention to request that the Council approve a bond ordinance for the acquisition of land for the creation of new parks as designated in Hoboken’s Master Plan.
“It is important that we acquire this park space now before we lose any more land to development,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “After a year and a half of belt-tightening, gimmick-free budgets, and responsible fiscal management, we are now out of state fiscal supervision and on strong financial footing to make this investment in our City’s future. In addition, we are very well positioned to sell the Hoboken University Medical Center, maintain the acute care services currently provided by the hospital, and release the City from its $52 bond guarantee. And now is the time to take advantage of the downturn in the real estate market so we can change our City for the better forever.”
If you can’t make the public meeting tonight, MSV will be covering it live. It will also be available for viewing online as part of the public record for Hoboken.
During the 7:00-9:00 internet broadcast, please no phone calls, text or email. Should you have a problem there may be a temporary issue – just reload this page.
MSV is pushing technology limits to do this live! Enjoy.
Talking Ed Note: Mayor Zimmer spoke to an audience of about 100 residents discussing a multi-faceted approach to a number of areas in Hoboken (the release detailing this is above this story).
