Freeholder candidate Phil Cohen announces:

I wanted to update you on exciting developments in the Cohen for Freeholder
campaign, and invite you to some upcoming events.

With less than a month to election day, I am energized by the terrific levels of support I
am seeing and enjoying listening to voters in Hoboken and Jersey City talk about the
issues that most concern them. It is clear to me that residents of Hoboken and Jersey
City are ready for change in Hudson County government. I am running for Freeholder
so I can stand up for us, and let our voices be heard.

Did you know Hoboken pays millions of tax dollars more to Hudson County than
it collects for its entire City budget? It’s true.

Carmelo Garcia’s paid aide goes on racial rant at HHA meeting twice as he sits idly by

=&0=& =&1=& =&2=& =&3=& At the last Hoboken Housing Authority meeting in April, HHA Executive Director Carmelo Garcia’s aide Patricia Waiters who is paid $10,000 by NJ taxpayers under his Assembly budget went on a racial screed unchecked, twice during the meeting. Councilman Dave Mello’s attempts to interject to no avail as Chairman Rob Davis and Carmelo Garcia sit by. Three times during the meeting, Garcia aide Patricia Waiters takes the floor. The first was not captured in its entirety as Waiters who holds no official role in the federal meeting orders a “five-minute” break in the meeting (Page 133) to address the audience.  The transcription restarts again and captures Waiters in her first extended remarks during the public portion. Later she will take the floor when Fox Hills resident Carmen Vega gives her the floor a second time during public portion.
HHA Executive Director and his employee, Assembly aide Patricia Waiters at the last HHA meeting.
She called Councilman Dave Mello racist, accused Mayor Zimmer of hiring only people who are Jewish.
She would later at the same meeting say “get ready for tactic number two.”
Carmelo Garcia sat by saying nothing to discourage his employee through it all.
Among the highlights from the transcript: =&4=& Garcia Assembly aide Patricia Waiters yells at HHA commissioner Dana Wefer “You’re out of order!”  =&5=& Patricia Waiters: “I’m going to give it five minutes so you can all take a recess…” Chair Rob Davis: “You can’t. We can’t have this.” Meeting Secretary Garcia: “You have four members of the Board” (MSV interjected during its filming objecting to the “politicking,” directly to Carmelo Garcia and Rob Davis which is captured in the transcript. Transcription ended temporarily and the next remark, “Mr. Chairman control your meeting,” was not and saw Davis order MSV out of the meeting.) =&6=& Waiters: “…this have a bunch of racist issues in here, okay, and this is pertaining to your supporters.” (Reference to Mayor Zimmer?) =&7=& Waiters: “I am not going to fill out no documents whether I wear a wire or not.” (Reference to Carmelo Garcia asked to sign he isn’t surreptitiously recording a meeting at City Hall.) =&8=&  Waiters “I went and applied for your chair and your chair.” (To commissioners Sanford and Wefer) “You know why they didn’t pick me? =&9=& Waiters: “–and I’m going to do the right thing, okay — =&10=& I want you to know it…” Waiters: “.. you got a personal vendetta (to Dave Mello).” =&11=& Waiters: “You are out to get him.” (Her employer Carmelo Garcia.)  =&12=& Waiters: “It is disgusting that both of you came aboard with a dirty motive, and we are not letting it happen.” (Comment directed to HHA commissioners Sanford and Wefer.) =&13=& =&14=& okay, and those not race baited because they pulled you all from Morris County.”  =&15=& Waiters: “… she lost three elections and now you came here.” (To commissioner Wefer.) Dave Mello: “Show us some respect.” Waiters: “I don’t have to respect you, because you are not respecting us.” =&16=& Waiters: “… I don’t care.” =&18=& Waiters: “I’m showing facts… Why was I denied?”  (Reference to not being voted by the City Council to an HHA seat.) =&19=& =&20=& HHA audience: “That’s right.” =&21=& Waiters: “Yes or no? Yes or no?” =&22=& Waiters: “– stop it already because—“ (Reporter lost section of Waiters remarks according to transcript.) =&23=& =&24=& Waiters: “… we being denied, because we are not good enough. =&25=& Waiters: “For Housing Authority residents, this is disgusting.” (Reference: Waiters lives in uptown Hoboken in an Applied Housing building.) – . – Later in public portion, Waiters would be again given time. Previously, she had told MSV she never supported Vision 20/20. But now… =&26=& Waiters: “I just want to touch base for Ms. Vega real quick on the 20/20 plan…. again Mayor Zimmer is in control.” =&27=& Waiters: “… I am African-American, and I took offense to this. You can call it what you want. Racist, anti-semitic, whatever you want to call it, it’s racial. It is racial. Dawn’s actions speak louder than her words. =&28=& =&29=& Waiters: “–I am going  — I’m defending Carmelo because of what? There ain’t no place big enough for Carmelo to hang on my — I am going to still defend him, because I do what is right. Now this 20/20 and this money, okay, they are trying to play a scare tactic with you…. I need a Letter of Need, and if we got to march, we will do that, because we already know your motive, and all of her friends on the Zoning Board and Planning Board is not going to give you no letter, okay? So we all have to get ready for tactic number two.” =&30=& (Applause – audience yelling and screaming, and this portion could not be stenographically recorded.) The Audience: “Justice Pat.” (Audience yelling and screaming, and this portion could not be stenographically recorded.) HHA May 2014 Meeting Minutes

Talking Ed Note: Many other Carmelitos would speak with pro Old Guard Vision 20/20 advocate and Ruben Ramos backer David Liebler joining in and criticizing MSV for reporting on Vision 20/20 and its original proposal of more than doubling the expansion of the HHA in downtown Hoboken. There is no Master Plan available to the public and Liebler says a claim for a smaller footprint is the real plan and reference to the written size of more than double is “B.S.”

HHA commissioner Eduardo Gonzalez would comment later his potential re-appointment was up and asked the audience to support him at the City Council this Wednesday night. Read More...

Race baiting on the front page of the Hudson Reporter but it’s an old story of Hoboken racial politics

=&0=&

A Hoboken Housing Authority seat will be filled at the Wednesday City Council meeting and made the front page of the Hudson Reporter and with it, a race baiting article claiming the next chairman of the seven board body will be as it predicts “a Caucasian” in Councilman Dave Mello.

On the front top of the pro Old Guard rag is a race baiting sidebar column claiming that very few minorities hold directorships and head local boards. Also getting a mention and not unfavorably was HHA Executive Director Carmelo Garcia’s “ethnic cleansing” lawsuit thrown out of court last January. Read More...

COHEN CALLS FOR INDEPENDENT PERFORMANCE AUDIT OF COUNTY GOVERNMENT SPENDING

Freeholder candidate Phil Cohen announces:

Phil Cohen, a candidate for Hudson County Freeholder to represent the Fifth District, today called for an independent performance audit to identify potential areas of cost-savings in Hudson County government.   Cohen noted that Hudson County’s proposed budget calls for a nearly 4% increase in county taxes this year, on top of nearly 20% of increases over the past four years.  Because of higher property values, this year’s increase in county taxes for residents of Hoboken and Jersey City will be much higher than the county average, with Hoboken residents slated to receive a 15% increase and Jersey City residents a 7% increase.  Cohen also noted that Hudson County taxes represent the single biggest piece of Hoboken residents’ tax bill. Phil Cohen said, “We must put an end to year after year of big county tax increases. The years of socking Hoboken and Jersey City residents with 15% and 7% County tax hikes must come to an end.  An independent performance audit will provide us with a road map to a more efficient, cost-effective County government. It is time for Hudson County government to tighten its belt.” The performance audit will examine county staffing levels and service delivery mechanisms with an eye towards identifying areas for increased efficiencies and cost-savings.  Phil Cohen is running in the Democratic Primary for Freeholder, which will be held on Tuesday, June 3. The 5th District is comprised of Hoboken and portions of Jersey City.  Cohen is an attorney, who currently serves as a Commissioner on the Hoboken Zoning Board of Adjustment, He is a former Vice-Chair of the Hoboken Democratic Party.

Hoboken City Hall site of Hudson County budget hearing @ 6:00

The new annual ritual of Hoboken hosting a HudCo budget meeting makes a pilgrimage to the Mile Square City tonight.

So, on this frightful day of a chill spring rain, Hoboken residents and taxpayers will have an opportunity to see its legislative body responsible for the double digit year over year tax increases with no negligible improved services before us. Tonight at 6:00 PM the Hudson County budget hearing begins. A Public Portion will be available and if you have something to pass along to HudCo, this is your chance to do so on your home turf.
Beth Mason once looked upon Hudson County as an escape route to move up the political ladder.
Perhaps she’ll show up tonight to pitch her newest episode of “Counte$$ goes to Washington.”
=&0=&: Hoboken may wish to see HudCo make serious spending reductions but it wasn’t long ago that one Hoboken resident thought there was a road etched in her name with County Executive paved on it. The thinking being some checks with the right names could open that door. It didn’t pan out but the Mason family checks continue being written and sent all over Hudson, Bergen, Passiac and Monmouth counties in the search to get Beth Mason something, anything other than lowly ward council member in a one square mile hamlet. Many checks in many Soprano State places are in the five figure range or more, but no donut. Beth Mason – FinBoy Nazi Truck graphic courtesy of Grafix Avenger
