Too early to be true? Mayor Healy congratulates Steve Fulop

According to a tweet by the Jersey Journal not even an hour after the polls have closed, Mayor Healy has been heard congratulating Steve Fulop after the heated race for Jersey City mayor.

A source close to the Jersey City action has confirmed it seconds after this story went up.  “I told you,” he said with an edge of excitement in his voice.  “People are tired.”  He concluded saying, “The upsets are not over.”

Earlier today MSV shared insight of this possible outcome with subscribers based on Jersey City sources  Da Horsey concluded with: Read More...

Mayor Zimmer on Vision 20/20’s proposed massive HHA expansion: None shall pass

=&0=&

Mayor Zimmer who has benefited greatly for being underestimated in her years in office as Hoboken’s Chief Executive drew a line in the sand when the shucking and jiving ED of the HHA Carmelo Garcia came calling on the Old Guard’s wet dream of expanding the most problematic part of town with its proposed 1800 plus units grown from about 800 current in the fourth ward.

Like the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, she means to put life and limb into combat holding the line.

Unlike the weapons deployed against her on saving the hospital by the nefarious cynical Old Council members: Beth Mason, Michael Russo, Terry Castellano and Tim Occhipinti – this isn’t even a fair fight. Read More...

Grafix Avenger exposes Mason family largess to Jersey City Mayor Healy campaign

=&0=&
Hoboken’s big neighbor of Jersey City is heading to the polls today.  Da Horsey wishes them good luck especially the Grafix Avenger superhero counterpart Johnny Action Space Punk who runs the “Jersey City Desk.”
We know what am FBI informant tried to buy with Fed dollars, what’s Beth Mason buying again?

Last week’s breaking story on Grafix Avenger exposing $46,000 in Mason family largess to the Mayor Healy re-election campaign in neighboring Jersey City made the weekend paper.  Or rather, Mason political operatives acknowledged the sordid tens of thousands in political donations and attempted to cover up the implication.

Mason’s political operatives attempted to point the finger at the other guy saying he came up heavy in his request, about 10K.  Well isn’t that special (illuminating). Read More...

Appellate Court set to hear plea from the Hoboken Sopranos

Jim Doyle, Hoboken’s ‘official’ councilman-in-waiting will see his case heard before the NJ Appellate Court on May 21 according to a report on Hoboken Patch.  A decision could come in July if not sooner.

After the Hoboken Sopranos’ were defeated in their manufactured lawsuit last fall in a ruling by Hudson County Superior Court Assignment Judge Peter Bariso, they put in an appeal locking up reform’s fifth vote on the City Council.

Judge Bariso took the Old Guard lawsuit, ordered the whole council through the process of attending and voting together on back filling the open seat and ruled on the attempts to sabotage the mayor’s tie-breaking vote. Read More...

Ruben Ramos demand to mayor: surrender to Vision 20/20!

The Old Guard demand to more than double the size of the Hoboken Housing Authority has met resistance, most recently when the reform members of the City Council asked for documentation to review Vision 20/20, the controversial proposed expansion in Hoboken. The request coming after midnight was met with demands for a vote on the first phase and charges by Councilman Michael Russo those who immediately declined to do so were “racist.”

Ruben Ramos, mayoral candidate and his council slate have signed on to the Vision 20/20 plan criticizing the mayor for not approving the first phase presented to her along with the council last week combined in a last minute request for a 30 year PILOT for RPM, the developer of the first building on lower Harrison Street.

The mayor balked at the tactics by HHA Executive Director Carmelo Garcia responding with a letter questioning the complete process of changing the landscape of the fourth ward and all of Hoboken without any overall plan, funding or ANY review by the Hoboken community.  (The mayor has made public input a regular part of any project process in town, from the Viaduct upgrades to parks.)
Garcia responded with a letter of his own and going to the City Council meeting attempting to push the plan ahead there where a midnight resolution was pushed (with no documentation whatsoever) by the Hoboken Sopranos: Michael Russo, Terry Castellano, Tim Occhipinti and Beth Mason.
Both Mason and Russo both have argued against voting on matters where they did not feel they were given adequate advance time to review.  Here they were demanding a resolution be passed on a project of huge consequence to all of Hoboken with no review and no documentation!
They took the idea far enough to call for two votes with NOTHING in the way of even a piece of paper on the dais, without a quorum, voted it as “approved” while yelling at City Clerk James Farina who declined to call the roll.
Now Ruben Ramos and his slate: Joe Mindak, Laura Miani and Eduardo Gonzalez have thrown in agreeing that the mayor is out of line for not signing off immediately on Vision 20/20.  Gonzalez sits on the HHA board and has consistently backed Carmelo Garcia and his efforts for a massive expansion of the HHA in both the third and fourth ward.
Which should tell you much on how Ramos operates and who his true “kin” are on the issue.
The letter makes a number of criticisms but MSV is focusing on Vision 20/20.  Why?
Because there’s so much money to be made involved, the Old Guard is frothing over the mouth about it every other day it seems.  Grooming a permanent underclass of voters is an incentive but nothing like the green  in the proposed massive HHA expansion which had Councilman Michael Russo calling reform members “racist” as Ma Russo applauded in the back of the City Council.
The letter is chocked with misinformation but let’s focus on what the Old Guard cares about most: the loot they can taste in Vision 20/20.  The mayor didn’t actually block a vote, the reform members of the City Council did in refusing to vote past midnight on a massive project with no documentation.  Zero.
Ruben Ramsos makes it clear who’s calling the shots on Vision 20/20.  He charged the mayor with blocking
a midnight resolution on the first phase of the controversial plan.  Other than Eduardo Gonzalez who sits on the HHA,

do Joe Mindak and Laura Miani know what they have signed up for in backing Ramos’ agenda?
Do they think there is any other?
The Ramos letter follows below:
This Tuesday, May 14, marks what would have been Mayoral election day in Hoboken. While this election has been moved to November to streamline the municipal voting process, we would like to review the mayor’s progress as, unless reelected, her term would end on July 1st. Few of the promises to the city of Hoboken during her campaign in 2009 have come to fruition, and we would argue that the City has in fact suffered multiple setbacks under this mayor’s tenure in office. While the administration scrambles to get a few things done in the extra six months they have between now and November, take a moment to consider these unfulfilled promises from Zimmer’s 2009 campaign: Read More...

Reform crushed in HHA Re-org

=&0=&

In yet another debacle in a series against the reform movement in the Hoboken Housing Authority, the reorg meeting saw a shocking pick to replace Jake Stuiver as Chairman.

In a 4-3 vote, Judy Burrell flipped to vote with the Old Guard Russo backed commissioner Rob Davis.
The shock vote continues a series of poor outcomes to reform any aspect within the HHA.

Judy Burrell a governor appointment flipped to Carmelo Garica and the
Old Guard voting for pro-Russo commissioner Rob Davis for chair.

ED Carmelo Garcia continues with another in a spate of continuous victories trouncing any new oversight of the HHA. Garcia is expected to retain control over all proceedings with Rob Davis acting as Chair. Read More...

HudCo kicks Hoboken in the teeth with 10% tax hike

Mayor Zimmer along with two local Hudson County town mayors were joined yesterday at City Hall with Freeholder Anthony Romano to protest the archaic tax formula leveling double digit taxes at Hoboken in a proposed Hudson County budget.

Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner and Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonneli were equal opportunity victims to Hudson County’s tax chomping whims seeing proposed increases of 20% and 10% respectively.

In a Jersey Journal story, Mayor Zimmer is quoted saying:

Ten percent is too much for the City of Hoboken. They (Hudson County) need to think more about how they are going to tighten their belts. They really have got to roll up their sleeves and look under every stone and decide where to make the cuts.”

People recognize the City is recovering from Hurricane Sandy and many have not been able to return to their homes.  Those people are not the running Hudson County. Read More...

Councilman Ravi Bhalla: Opting out in Assembly race, declares Carmelo Garcia double dipping at expense of HHA residents “blatant” travesty

From the desk of Councilman Ravi Bhalla:

I write to advise residents of the 33rd Legislative District that, effective immediately, I am no longer seeking the Democratic Party nomination for Member of the General Assembly.

My decision is driven by yesterday’s refusal by the New Jersey Supreme Court to consider a challenge to Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) Director Carmelo Garcia’s candidacy to serve in the State Assembly, while simultaneously serving as Executive Director of the HHA. As a result, it is not prudent to expend substantial resources in continuing my candidacy now.

At a minimum, Director Garcia’s candidacy is a blatant violation of the spirit of both federal and state laws intended to address the kind of conflict of interest represented by Mr. Garcia’s candidacy.  The residents of the HHA are completely dependent on the federal program administered by Mr. Garcia, leaving them particularly vulnerable to the consequences of the conflict of interest created by Mr. Garcia’s candidacy, and ultimately his dual office holding since Mr. Garcia has stated that he intends to retain both positions. BREAKING: Hoboken residents denied by NJSC in Garcia ballot case

Late this afternoon the New Jersey Supreme Court upheld the decision to permit HHA Executive Director Carmelo Garcia to appear on the Hudson County Democratic Organization line for the 33rd legislative district Assembly seat.

The decision signed by Stuart Rabner, NJ Supreme Court Chief Justice means the Hoboken residents who challenged Garcia’s eligibility have exhausted their legal avenues.

Rajiv Parikh, the attorney for Garcia wrote via email, “We are pleased with the (NJ) Supreme Court’s affirmation of last week’s Appellate Division decision.  I know Mr. Garcia is looking forward to addressing the issues and advocating for the people.” Read More...
