State of NJ on Tornado Watch until 7:00 pm

A statewide tornado watch has been issued effective until 7:00 pm.

If you are interested in human self-inflicted disasters, Grafix Avenger has a story today detailing the imploding Timmy Occhipinti campaign.  It’s akin to a Real World soap opera on MTV combined with a bad episode of Peyton Place.

Who owes who and who will double cross the other last jacking peops’ wallets for the ride?
MTV might be interested in a bizarre contest of who wins the doofus last: Brit or Amanda?
Does that matter after November 5th? Read More...

Old Guard War of the Roses

The Hoboken scene appears serene on the surface but in the rough and tumble Hoboken political environment, it’s all out war and all the guns are blazing or about to let fly.

Whether it’s the traditional Hoboken Housing Authority dance of the vote-by-mail ballot buys or the knocks on the door by campaigns, winning hearts and minds is the name of the game with just a month left to election day November 5th.

First, the very successful Zimmer campaign event at the Madison last week with Eli Manning and his wife was by all accounts a huge success and not only from the fundraising aspect.  Eli and Abby were graceful and clearly engaged showing this was no mere appearance but the beginning of a down payment on the community. Jessica Coco responds to Carmelo Garcia’s denials of her account of mistreatment

The following is a response from Jessica Coco in reply to the weekend paper’s report HHA Executive Director Carmelo Garcia called “all” of her account “false.”

Mr. Carmelo Garcia stated to the Hoboken Reporter that all my allegations are false. I sent him a letter detailing the harassment I received which included =&0=& incidents of vandalization, burglaries and threats to my car, home and person on Aug. 26th.  I never received any response to this letter.  These incidents were filed with the Hoboken Police Department. Certainly, the Hoboken Police Dept informed Mr. Garcia of these incidents that all took place on HHA property.  Did Mr. Garcia ever do an investigation into any of these incidents? If not, why? Isn’t this his job to make sure under the law that his tenants have a safe and secure living environment? Why am I not entitled to a safe and secure environment?  Is it because I voice concerns and skepticism over the pet project he is trying to push, i.e. Vision 20/20? Even when Mr. Garcia approached me on Sept. 13th at the local housing office located at 321 Harrison St. while I was renewing my lease, I brought forth the fact I did not feel safe at the HHA and vocalized the harassment I was experiencing.  Mr. Garcia’s only response to these incidents was to state he was not responsible, because he alleges that neither he nor his HHA staff are responsible for the acts. This answer is wholly unacceptable and as I explained it’s irrelevant whether he was directly involved or not, the law stipulates the landlord is responsible for providing a safe and secure living environment.   For nearly a month, my lock was damaged and I couldn’t leave my apartment unattended. This is disgraceful. One of Mr. Garcia’s supporters who threatened “to hurt me” over the phone has even the nerve to approach me in my mail room to threaten me a second time. Here too, a report has been filed with the HPD.  How is this behavior acceptable? Mr. Garcia’s only answer isn’t to investigate or do anything about the harassment but to totally ignore the repeated acts of harassment aimed towards me.
Carmelo Garcia, the contracted landlord in the HHA has nothing to say about the documented account of
harassment, intimidation and death threats to a resident who voices skepticism against his Vision 20/20 plan.

Garcia only offers a complete denial calling all of her account of mistreatment “false.”

Zimmer campaign Saturday activities and Tuesday night at Wicked Wolf

The re-elect Mayor Dawn Zimmer campaign announces:

Dear Horsey and MSV readers —

It has been an exciting week for the Zimmer Team.  On Monday, Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Councilman Ravi Bhalla, Councilman David Mello and Council candidate James Doyle welcomed over 100 supporters at the Madison Bar and Grill for a great night of football and fun.  Thank you to all of our friends who supported us.  A big thank you to Abby and Eli Manning for being our special guests!

On Wednesday, Mayor Zimmer was honored with the Hero of the Harbor award given by the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance for “the Mayor’s extraordinary leadership and courage in managing the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.”

TODAY Team Zimmer is gearing up for our Canvass Kick-Off at 12pm at our office at 98 Garden Street.  We are taking our message to the streets of Hoboken talking to friends and neighbors about the importance of November’s election.  Four years ago, you all all came together to lead Hoboken in a new direction.  You brought honest professional government to City Hall, saved Hoboken’s hospital and made responsible and fiscally sound decisions with taxpayer money, but we still have more to do.

As we all know, Hoboken thrives on being a community where everybody is a “neighbor” and part of not just a town, but also a large family. That’s why spreading our grassroots message—making that personal connection with Hobokenites—is so important to us and to our campaign. Our event tomorrow at 12 will be just the first step in that direction. Be a part of our movement and help us spread the word.

What’s Next:
Canvass Kick-Off: Please join TODAY as we take our message to the streets.  Time: 12pm at Zimmer Team HQ!
Voter Registration:  Are you registered?  Don’t miss your chance?  Meet us @ Washington Street and Newark Street from 12pm to 3pm.
Wicked Happy Hour with Team Zimmer: Please join us at the Wicked Wolf on October 8, 2013 at 7pm for a meet and greet to get involved and help make that extra effort to see Dawn and the Zimmer Team prevail on Election Day.  This your chance to meet the Zimmer Team Guys-David, Ravi and Jim.

We’ve seen how grassroots organizing can transform elections, and the lifeblood of any good campaign is always in its volunteers. We need you to share your time with Dawn on the doors, on the phones or with your neighbors to make sure we keep leading Hoboken forward.

Council President Cunningham: We win with the grass roots

From the desk of City Council President Peter Cunningham:

As you all know, (but will remind you) I am in full support of Mayor Zimmer and her slate of candidates – =&0=&, =&1=& and =&2=&.  We have had much success in the last four years, even in the face of relentless push back from the rest of our fellow coucilmembers.  It has been an even tougher year as an 8 member council, but we persevered and managed to at least pass the budget. Now it’s time to get back on track and finish the jobs we have set out to accomplish.  To do so, is to re-elect Mayor Zimmer, Councilmembers Bhalla and Mello, and elect Jim Doyle.  Please see website for additional information on candidate achievements, issues and vision.   http://www.dawnzimmer.com/ To accomplish our goal takes money and volunteerism.  Speaking with many of you over the last couple of weeks, there has been a strong expression of both, and that’s great. Grass roots is the way we have won in the past, and we will do it again!  We don’t do it with special interest and big money, we do it with local contributions and hard work from within the community.

This Saturday will be an excellent opportunity to volunteer for the campaign, meet fellow supporters and canvass the city, your neighborhood, to help spread the word and identify our base.  Secondly, I will be co-hosting with Scott Katz a fundraiser and rally for the campaign Tuesday, October 22nd at 10th and Willow Bar and Grill.  Please hold the date with more details to follow, and send this note around to your neighbors and friends.  Look forward to seeing you this weekend and Oct 22nd. Final numbers on Timmy Occhipinti out of a job poll

=&0=&

The poll is now closed and the scientific conclusion can be drawn, even if it’s not scientific. That’s just Hoboken speak for blowing hot air which you get lots of especially during campaign season.

Did you hear that one from the Ramos campaign operative in City Council last night the hospital could have been sold for millions more if there was a bidding process?

What about the successful bidding process that actually happened?  Naughty, naughty campaign lie David.
Expect that one to be making its way around the streets with plenty more to come. Read More...

Campaigns latest: Mayor Zimmer Saturday canvasing, Ramos wine & cheese event

Councilman David Mello announces:

Blog      Volunteer      Contribute
Dear Horsey and MSV readers —

In order for us to win, we need to share our vision and plan to keep Hoboken moving forward.  So we’re gearing up to knock on doors and call our neighbors and we need your help to do it.

Today, as Hoboken University Medical Center celebrates the 150th anniversary of Hoboken’s Hospital, it is more clear than ever why it is so important that you help get the vote out for the Zimmer Team. For many of us, it’s a momentous occasion as we remember the dire straights our Hospital was in just two years ago.
In 2011, after years of past mismanagement of the Hospital, Hoboken University Medical Center on the verge of closure, and the city would have been left responsible for a $52 million bond guarantee which would have almost doubled the city’s municipal tax levy, not to mention the loss of the vital services our hospital provides and 1200 jobs in our city.
Through all this, it was our Mayor – Dawn Zimmer – fighting alongside me and with the essential support of then-Council President Ravi Bhalla, we were able to rise above political bickering and blame to save our Hospital and our City from financial ruin.  Jim Doyle, who is running together with Ravi and me for City Council at large in this election—was a critical part of the team that saved the Hospital serving as volunteer member of an important Hospital related Board.  We faced many obstacles, any of which would have caused the sale of the Hospital to fail, and together we paved the way for the new Hospital owners to improve the services and quality of care for Hoboken residents, all while avoiding burdening residents with a huge tax hike.
This story is a strong reminder of the steady and consistent leadership our team brings to Hoboken. For us, it’s not about politics or special deals, it’s about getting things done for our city and our residents.
Together we will continue to fight for better city services and a better government.
See you out there!
David Mello

Old Guard hunts its “animal” prey tonight @ 7:00 in City Council

Video streaming by Ustream

Part two: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/39476650

We have a late summer like day and Da Horsey refuses to review the agenda because, well because it’s election season.  Nothing is more fun at a City Council meeting then the mad bum rush to get some hit, some smoke out on an opponent even when there’s nothing there.

In recent meetings we’ve seen slander not directed at the public but mano a mano with council members. Can you guess who is doing the slandering?  (Okay shouldn’t the home team get a slander advantage?) Read More...
