NEW YORK (CBS NewYork) — A man being sought in connection with an explosion in Seaside Park, New Jersey and another blast in Chelsea is believed to have been taken into custody following a shootout, Linden police said. Authorities Monday had been looking for Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Afghanistan who was wanted in both incidents Saturday. Linden police said they found Rahami after officers responded to a call of a man sleeping in a hallway of a local business. When an officer approached the man, the man raised his head and that’s when the officer recognized him as Rahami, Capt. James Sarnicki with Linden police told CBS2. “The suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the officer and striking him in the abdomen,” Sarnicki said. “The gentlemen got up and started walking down the street in a westerly direction. I’m told that he was randomly discharging his handgun and one of the officers was able to get close enough to him and return fire.”

A Stick in the Unity?

Rumors planted by the pro Old Guard rag Hudson Reporter of Old Guard unity heading into 2017 may be premature.

May be is a polite way of putting it.

While Anthony “Stick” Romano is emerging as the candidate most likely to take on Mayor Dawn Zimmer for the big chair at City Hall next year, the unity of “the OG” beyond the machinery gearing up at election time is MIA a year out from the Hoboken mayoral campaign.

Anthony “Stick” Romano appearing at the MSTA seminar last year. He decried labeling Hoboken a small town and urged the audience, “Don’t read the blogs.”

Mayor Zimmer will face challenges too. Third terms are always a dicey proposition and the words “Zimmer fatigue” could induce what is best described as “the Hillary effect,” a lack of enthusiasm to vote for the candidate sans the corruption, lying and pay to play schemes. Read More...

Christie Admin. Moves Forward with $230 Million Project to Protect Hoboken & Parts of Weehawken & Jersey City from Storm Surge

TRENTON –The Christie Administration has marked another milestone in making the state more resilient against storms such as Superstorm Sandy by recommending the construction of a strategically placed flood-resistance system that will protect Hoboken and parts of Weehawken and Jersey City from storm surge. The Department of Environmental Protection’s selection of the recommended option, known as Alternative 3, was announced Thursday evening during a public meeting at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. “After a very thorough evaluation process that productively engaged local officials and residents, we have determined that this recommended option provides the most cost-effective level of protection from storm surge while preserving waterfront access and views of the river and New York City skyline, goals expressed by the communities,” said David Rosenblatt, DEP’s Assistant Commissioner for Engineering and Construction. The recommended alternative calls for construction of a flood resistance structure stretching from 19th Street in Weehawken and extending south into Hoboken, slightly inland from the river.=&0=&

Tomorrow Americans mark September 11th where the largest terrorist attack on US soil took place seeing murdered thousands of their fellow citizens. Others add it was an attack on Western civilization itself.

To some, the barbaric savagery of that terrorist attack on a civilian center where initial estimates believed tens of thousands perished marked the end of one century’s barbarity fostered by totalitarian ideologies and begun by another in this one.
