With the hotly contested Hoboken election entering the backstretch, all the Bhalla campaign narratives about Jen Giattino’s insurgent grass roots campaign have come to a screeching halt. It’s sent the cave dwellers into much gnashing of teeth as they realize all the effort over months to squash the Reform Resistance has failed.
Execution is the name of the game here on out for all four of the major mayoral campaigns. With less than a month to go and all four mayoral candidates within range, the flurry to the finish promises to be like no living Hobokenite has witnessed here in a mayoral race.Read More...
Angelo Valente, Independent Candidate for the Hoboken Council at Large, released this week, the third of a series of campaign videos outlining the Valente for Hoboken common sense campaign platform. The video released at ValenteForHoboken.Com outlines Valente’s plan for permanent cultural and recreational faculties in the city.
“For many years we have had the untapped and underutilized resources to implement my common sense plan for creating permanent cultural and recreational faculties. My plan uses the rooftops of municipal garages, the long dormant former YMCA and the existing Multi-Service Center to build a new senior center, and new recreational and cultural facilities for Hoboken residents of all ages,” explained Valente. Since Mayor Zimmer stepped away from her re-election bid last June, efforts to see her anointed successor Councilman Ravi Bhalla propelled into Hoboken City Hall has been nonstop.
Despite her endorsement and well-funded coffers, the Bhalla campaign may be running aground against his main rival, City Council President Jen Giattino who is surging at just the right time with less than a month before Election Day.
Back in June, Dawn Zimmer admitted she had consulted none of her council allies nor others in Reform, (not to mention politicos near and far who had endorsed her in April) but her decision to select her council whip Ravi Bhalla was thought by the backroom dealers the end of the road for any serious challenge from within the Reform Movement.Read More...

Once again the word on the street suggests there’s a new telephone poll begun today. It’ll likely run through this weekend so prepare to be asked questions on the Hoboken mayoral election.
(=&1=&)
According to one reliable source, this telephone poll doesn’t originate from the Romano or Bhalla campaign. The DeFusco campaign ran one recently and no one knows what the Giattino campaign is up to as they were privy to another recent poll.
So basically, this is a poll there’s not much details available on to this point entering the weekend. One reader who got the poll described it this way. “I got a push poll that had slanted questions attacking Bhalla, DeFusco, Giattino and Romano.” Who’s left? “No one, it was equal parts negative questions on all of them,” was the answer. (Not what’s going on now from other Hoboken residents. It’s a push poll for Ravi “saving the hospital” again!)Read More...

The following MSV Horse Sense editorial was published on September 29th. It’s being reposted with an updated entry atop for an end of week close. It’s that good.
Note the line: “Two council votes will be available to the mayor: Ravi Bhalla and Jim Doyle. After that it’s dicey. There’s not likely to be much enthusiasm to undertake such a radical action without serious efforts to negotiate first with the owners.”
Despite the foolish attack relayed from Sybil’s Cave and the repeated whining by the lead resident of the institution how could MSV know Councilman Bhalla would be backing the administration’s call for immediate eminent domain action on the Union Dry Dock, MSV was proven 100% correct.Read More...
The Hoboken City Council approved the 1st reading of an ordinance that would allow the city to acquire the Union Dry Dock property through eminent domain, though the catch is that the second reading won’t occur until after the municipal elections.
While this was the first reading of the ordinance, which typically has no discussion from the public or the council, Councilman-at-Large Ravi Bhalla, a mayoral candidate, expressed his opinion that this was an urgent matter and therefore would be against pushing it until after the November 7th municipal elections.

For the complete story, please see the Hudson County View.
=&0=&=&2=&: While Councilman Ravi Bhalla declares the eminent domain vote of Union Dry Dock “urgent” he made no such argument proving the substance of such a claim.
City Council President Jen Giattino bent over backwards to allow the ordinance late on to the agenda even as she expressed in her conversation late afternoon with the mayor, there was no such urgency requested.
Eminent domain is not an immediate process and will require months if not longer than a year. The City of Hoboken can execute the initial phase and there’s no barrier to them doing so.
Adding an item to the City Council agenda after the Thursday deadline requires an urgent reason. Councilman Bhalla had no reason other than TBD, to be determined later.
The only “urgent” matter here is the Ravi Bhalla mayoral campaign needing this as a wedge issue against his mayoral rival Jen Giattino. #FAIL
The first reading for eminent domain against the Union Dry Dock in uptown Hoboken passed easily 8-1 Wednesday night. The next and critical second reading will not be held as typically anticipated in two weeks but on November 13th – after Hoboken’s heavily contested mayoral election.
The vote as it turns out was anti-climatic. All of the candidates running this election cycle voted on first reading for approval: City Council President Jen Giattino and council members Ravi Bhalla, Mike DeFusco, Dave Mello and Jim Doyle. The vote however was preceded with less than the usual official reading of the ordinance with no discussion.Read More...
