Gov. Chris Christie and Mayor Dawn Zimmer during the Q&A session earlier today.

Here’s the toolkit legislation discussed in today’s town hall meeting in Hoboken today:

Talking Ed Note: The kickoff around New Jersey in this discussion is officially underway.  The battle lines are clear and the usual voices on different sides will be heard, in fact an advertising campaign to stop all of these proposals is being broadcast on the airwaves.  But will it work?  All of this remains unclear.

For now, MSV can note the new paradigm of forces at work.  Unifying beyond party lines to tackle the reality of a $11 billion deficit in a state with a budget less than three times that should give everyone pause.  It hasn’t. As an example of this, see the discussion in part two of the video below between Gov. Christie and Councilwoman Beth Mason.   At the 27:00 minute mark it all unfolds.  You can click on the scroll ahead to find the start point. Read More...

Gov. Christie Live in Hoboken – complete video

Part 1 of Gov. Christie’s visit to Hoboken:

Part 2:

This section has a very interesting exchange during the Q&A section with Councilwoman Beth Mason at the 2700-28:00 minute mark on transportation and charity care funds to hospitals.  Gov. Christie details how funds were reduced in many areas around the state including for transportation but not for charity care that saw a $62 million increase.  He also mentions that the State of NJ was close to not making payroll for state employees without these cuts in the first week of March.  Reality check anyone? Ronnie James Dio passes

Back when rock really rocked, Ronnie James Dio took over as front man from Ozzy Osbourne for Black Sabbath blending the best of the heavy metal genre in theme, guitar playing and powerful vocals.  Known for his lyrical fascination of good vs. evil, Dio delivered great vocals and energy on the band’s first album post Ozzy to epic heights.

1980 album Dio lost his battle to stomach cancer, 67 years young.

First song off the album, “Neon Knights” – never a better example of metal vocals/guitar.

Gov. Christie breaks issues and opposition down; will visit Hoboken Monday!

Gov. Christie will be visiting Hoboken on Monday as part of a process to introduce a toolkit for local municipalities to better manage costs that’s propelled New Jersey to the unenviable number one position – highest property taxes in the nation. The package will face a steep climb in the State Assembly (controlled by Democrats) although it probably will fare better in the State Senate and then in a required public referendum.

No matter how this develops, the Governor’s visit to Hoboken is looking to be a barn burner. Here’s a taste of the forthright Governor telling it like it is when a reporter tries to “frame” a question in what goes for the typical “news” approach these days. Read More...

Gonna Try with a little help from my friends…

7th Annual Hoboken High School Junior Prep Day   =&1=& from 8:30am – 12:00pm =&3=& Have you ever wanted to give back to the community but didn’t know how? So did I, that’s why 7 years ago I created the Senior/Junior Prep Day, an exciting volunteer effort to bring together various members of the community to meet with the junior class of Hoboken High School to help them plan the next phase in their lives. Volunteers from all walks of life gather in the High School gym to meet with the students (either one on one or in small groups) to discuss resume writing, interview techniques, what to wear to a first interview or just to chat about your job. =&4=& Come share your life experience with some fresh young faces….you won’t regret it. Guaranteed!

Whether you are self-employed or work for a corporation, artist or athletic director, banker or hair stylist, have worked for two years or about to retire, you have something vital to share with these students…your experience! Everything you have learned along the way can be of interest to someone starting out! Most important is having a wide variety of volunteers on that day to give the students an idea of the opportunities open to them.
In return, you will meet some amazing, talented, intelligent and motivated kids looking for some pointers and direction. If previous Junior Prep Days are any indication, it is an experience you won’t soon forget.
Interested?
Please join us on Wednesday, May 26th at 8:30am in the High School Gymnasium. The students will arrive between 9am and 12pm. Hoboken High School is located on 9th and Clinton Streets in Hoboken.
Please extend this invitation to your co-workers, relatives, neighbors or anyone else you think would be interested in spending three hours to change a life.

Perry Belfiore carries the old guard mantle

Perry Belfiore a long time participant in local politics in Hoboken has entered the never say die battle regarding the Condon contract passed by the City Council earlier this year in a 9-0 vote.  His complaint available in its entirety below is part of the theatrical sideshow manufactured by Councilwoman Mason and the purple pillow fluffers of her government-in-exile campaign.  (The Hudson Reporter story never detailed its origins last weekend.)

The complaint filed was originally expected to come from another party who made noises about filing at the last City Council meeting: Patricia Waiters – the perennial Hoboken candidate for any office who sees as many conspiracies in her election defeats as some other diehards who can’t accept election outcomes.  Is Perry Belfiore among them?
