Councilman Ravi Bhalla endorses Peter Basso for State Assembly

Councilman Ravi Bhalla announces:
Hoboken Councilman At-Large Ravinder
S. Bhalla Endorses
Jersey City Democrat Peter Basso for N.J. State Assembly

June
1, 2013 (Hudson County, New Jersey) —
Hoboken Councilman
At-Large Ravinder S. Bhalla endorsed candidate Peter Basso for New Jersey State
Assembly (District 33) in the Democratic Primary Election to be held on
Tuesday, June 4, 2013.  A resident of
Jersey City Heights, Basso is running as a progressive Democrat for one of two
open seats in the N.J. State Assembly representing District 33, which spans
Hoboken, Union City, Weehawken, and northern neighborhoods in Jersey City.
“I want to express my strong support for
Peter Basso to represent the 33rd Legislative District,” Bhalla
said.  “Our district needs legislators
who are competent, honest, sincere, qualified and have the time and energy to
serve constituents.  Peter is all of that
and more.  Peter will be an independent
voice for the people of the 33rd District and no one else.  I urge you to cast your vote for Peter Basso
for State Assembly on June 4th, Column C.”
Basso is running in Tuesday’s primary
under the banner “Hudson County Progressive Democrats” — ballot position 3C.  Voters will choose two Democratic candidates
for Assembly, who will compete in the General Election in November.
“Ravi’s vote of confidence in me is one I
value highly,” Basso said. “When I entered this race, it was very important for
me to build a network of progressive-minded and independent leaders, who put
the needs of our District, and not their self-interest, first.  Ravi has been a strong representative for the
people of Hoboken. As an attorney and a Councilman, he has fought for civil
rights and good government, but most importantly, he has allowed his
constituents to feel they are being heard. I promise not to let Ravi or the
good people of our District down, and like him, I will dedicate myself to doing
the people’s business.”
Bhalla added, “I have known Peter as both
an excellent attorney and a tireless advocate for parks and open space.  Peter is someone you can trust to serve your
interests and place them above all else.
It takes courage to stand up
against politics as usual in Hudson County
. Peter’s candidacy is
something we should all support and be proud of because he is giving us a
choice.”
Basso is a civil rights attorney, community activist and organizer, who
has spent the last several years working with local organizations to better his
neighborhood.  Basso is the former
President of the Washington Park Association and current officer of the Jersey
City Parks Coalition.  He studied at
Brandeis University and attained his law degree from Northeastern.
