City Council Meeting – Halloween Edition?

A reader sent a picture today and we’re not going to say anything more about it other than let’s at least consider bringing sexy to the City Council Chambers if only to celebrate Halloween.

Maybe we’ll have less battles in costume and fighting over voting on illegal, useless resolutions deemed such a zillion times already by the Hoboken Counsel.

Behave or we’ll call in the babysitter on ya.

You’re ALL Under Arrest!

In a crime series, this would be pretty tame stuff.  For Hoboken it’s like being on a merry go round.  Amy Sara Clark at The Jersey Journal is reporting on a number of recent cases beginning with the arrest of a Hoboken police officer a week ago in the early morning hours in town for DUI.

Yesterday, the town was riffe with rumors on a series of arrests, including one each from Hoboken police, fire and parking utility.  Details were sparse and City Hall and the prosecutor’s office were tight lipped but it won’t last long.  It appears to be drug related and it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Here Comes the Judge!

Declaring it’s time to bring “integrity back to City Hall,” former municipal judge Kimberly Glatt launched her bid tonight for Hoboken mayor at her campaign headquarters on Washington Street.  In front of family and about 40 vocal supporters, the first woman judge in Hoboken’s history declared her fitness for the job, noting her commitment to the town’s future and a planned campaign centered on the budget, taxes and open space.  “It’s time for Hoboken to turn the page on the failed polices which caused our taxes to skyrocket and our city’s reputation to plummet following arrests and a state takeover” she said, laying the blame for that action squarely at the feet of last year’s City Council.  Ms. Glatt stated those who failed to act on the budget were not ready to lead Hoboken forward concluding,  “If you’re part of the past, you are part of the problem and you can’t possibly be part of the future.” Later in a side bar interview where she easily fielded all questions, Ms. Glatt emphasized a willingness to work with all members of the current City Council, including the coalition currently moving much of the legislation under the Acting Mayor, describing its current members as intelligent and independent minded. The former 14 year municipal judge joined other mayoral candidates critical of the Acting Mayor for temporarily holding the lead executive role along with her duties as City Council President until the November 3 election. “I believe you should only wear one hat when you’re in government,” she said in her opening remarks.  Ms. Glatt also made issue with the the “in-fighting… and grandstanding” on the City Council.  Without going into detail, she noted her observations on Channel 78 (Cablevision) where City Council meetings are replayed around the clock.  Referencing her strength of experience as a judge to listen and her experience of integrity and putting fairness first, the judge now candidate ended her remarks by asking for the support of those present as she anticipates a four week sprint to election day. On a question on how she may separate herself from the field of seven candidates, Ms. Glatt did not lay out a plan on how to reduce taxes or spending but said, “When we do (have a budget), I’ll have more to say about it.”  After the speech, Councilman Mike Russo stopped by briefly to speak with the new mayoral candidate.  Back in the summer, the Councilman had first mentioned Judge Kimberly Glatt as someone others mentioned to him as a potentially laudable candidate in an interview with Politicker NJ. =&0=& Disclosure of candidate fundraising is required in the NJ ELEC (Election Law Enforcement Commission) report

being released next week.  The Glatt campaign stated it has met the filing deadline and the information on her fundraising will be available in the upcoming report.  A fundraiser was held last week and Ms. Glatt said another was scheduled for next week.  Those interested can reach the campaign through the campaign website. Where’s Pupie?

Lots of folks have been asking where is Frank “Pupie” Raia and what is he doing?  Well yes, Frank is well aware a race is going on and has been crafting a message to reach out and touch you via TV.  Word on the street says he has already completed his commercial production, it’s in the can and ready to go.

Cablevision is said to begin airing Frank “Pupie” Raia into your homes starting Monday.

Some polling appears to have been done on his behalf over the weekend but it was too long and cluttered so the results would not be where they should for him.  He’s right there with some of the other big fish in the race in the November 3rd winner take all mayoral election. Read More...

Kim Glatt Kickoff Launch Party Tuesday

=&0=& =&1=&Hoboken Now released their story confirming the event with a children’s program between 4:30 and 6:30, and a speech to follow from the candidate, Kim Glatt.  Hat tip: Amy Sara Clark. =&0=& =&3=& – Well the party may kick off earlier but the meet and greet with the candidate actually is listed on the campaign website as 6:30. Tomorrow, mayoral candidate Kim Glatt will launch her bid for mayor from her new headquarters at 536 Washington Street tomorrow at 4:30.  We confirmed the other location near the corner is in fact going to be just a storefront for posters.  (Previously the campaign had listed 635 Washington St.)  This photo taken earlier today shows two ladies handing out information on the candidate.  That’s Kim Glatt’s sister on the right. The kickoff party to launch the former municipal judge’s bid in the November 3rd winner take all special election will be located at 536 Washington St. near the corner of sixth by the restaurant “It’s Greek To Me.” The kickoff party tomorrow begins at 4:30 and runs until, well they don’t actually know when it ends.  The word from a source close to the candidate also indicated Kim is actually around Hoboken today filming commercials.  Since the confirmation of the advertising firm, Whitehorse Strategies (the pale horse mentioned in our grist for the mill series Sunday) it’s clearly all systems go. An unconfirmed rumor suggest that Frank “Pupie” Raia is also filming commercials in Hoboken today.  We’ll get more details if available.  If there is a contact from Frank’s campaign who wishes to provide any details, feel free to contact us. There was some additional information on the KimberlyGlattforMayor.com campaign on a flyer being handed out.  Here’s some of what it included: Kimberly was appointed Hoboken’s first female presiding municipal judge in 1995.  She resigned her position in September 2009 to run for Mayor because she shares our concerns about Hoboken’s future.
Taxes in Hoboken have soared and our City has lost its direction because political infighting has brought our government to a standstill.

As Hoboken’s Mayor, Kimberly will apply the same leadership approach as when she was Hoboken’s judge: She will look at the facts and make a decision. Read More...

Sinatra Park City Update: “Funky, funky.. I am a junkie.”

=&0=& According to Hoboken Now, Hoboken officials will be looking to see if temporary measures will permit the use of Sinatra Park’s soccer field this fall.

10/4/09 12:20 AM

Back in the day long before the Kentucky run for the roses entered into the fray, futbol or soccer was our passion.  With the speed of a race horse and the ball control skills of a Brazilian, we blew through many a defender and sent many goalkeeps home crying when the ball hit the twine.

Now our beloved field at Sinatra Park is on hiatus from the locals playing the world’s beautiful game and Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer and her administration have worked with local officials to quickly scope out the problem (and it’s sizable) and implement a complete backup plan for the games normally played at this location.  You heard it here first.

Complete details on the city announcement this Sunday morning after the jump.

And if anyone finds a copy of the Adidas World Cup commercial, “Funky, funky I am a junkie” we’d appreciate it. Read More...

Sign of the Times: Kim Glatt on the move

In our photo series, it’s mayoral candidate Kim Glatt in the spotlight.  The former 14 year municipal court judge is kicking off her office on Washington Street at 635 and also pictured above has taken the window with her signs near the corner of 6th and Washington.

Coupled with her confirmed efforts to roll out advertising it’s clear she intends to be a player in this election, competing with Frank “Pupie” Raia for the “birthers,” residents who call Hoboken their place of birth, and Cammarano’s “locked down” vote.

Grist for the Mill – Sunday Surprise Edition

A newly disrobed candidate has enlisted a certain pale horse company to get the ad ball rolling coupled with her new office opening up in midtown on Washington St.  She’s quickly looking to shore up the “locked down” vote and beyond. Some think it’s a good bet she will.  That sexy development would be devastating to the Pupie maneuver among other candidates in favor of all things Church Towers.

Which Hoboken411 Masonite poster is supporting the family as a campaign paid hit man or is it hit girl, aiming their sights at anything and everything moving on the town’s most beloved website for weather, pipe bursts and store closings. We’re going to venture a guess the payments are much cheaper than some of the campaign’s other costs.  Would ole Winston endorse such a thing?

Are the hero G-men boys of summer any closer to announcing our former mayor Peter Camma-Rat-0’s deal plea and new digs?  More and more people have been asking the talking horse about the Great Condescender lately.  Well perhaps start with asking Gov. Jon Corzine.  Word still hasn’t leaked out on what deal was struck to get Petey Boy to step down.  Those lawyer to lawyer discussions sure do mirror the code of silence?  Is it going to be an omerta opera until the November election? Or can a canary really sing that long? Read More...

And they’re off!

For the convenience of our readers, we’ve put a collection of the web links of the candidates for mayor on the top right of the site. Two candidates Frank “Pupie” Raia and Patricia Waiters do not have a website but if they do build one, we will add it to the list.

As the bell has sounded, do your town a favor and read up on what the candidates have to say.  Speak to your neighbors and share what you think is important to the future of this town we love. And then take your educated selves to the voting booth. Read More...
