With the Condon report not even reviewed and digested by the public (made available on MSV earlier today) Councilwoman Beth Mason has decided it’s time to go all out and demand the resignation of Councilman Ravi Bhalla.
Hey, you know the saying, if you fail then try, try again. Clearly, there’s something that gets Councilwoman Mason wee weed up about Councilman Bhalla. Some speculate Mr. Bhalla would run for the 2nd ward Council seat next year with Councilwoman Mason’s popularity in a free fall.
=&0=& =&1=& =&2=& This afternoon, Hoboken’s Fire Department received a call about a strange clicking noise coming from a vehicle near 5th Street and Clinton Street. “First and foremost, I want to assure everyone that our city is safe,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “In light of the recent attempted bombing in Times Square, our residents should know that we take all potential threats like this very seriously.” After receiving the call, the area in question was cordoned off, and the Jersey City bomb squad was called in. All schools were notified of the potential threat. The bomb squad determined that the noise was coming from an alternator hanging from an automobile and posed no threat. “We thank the Hoboken Fire and Police departments and the Jersey City Bomb Squad for their professional and prompt response,” added Mayor Zimmer.
Corporation Counsel Michael Kates submitted his report on the Condon matter to the City Council and the documentation is available for release. In his conclusion he states there was no violation of pay-to-play and recommends no action on the current charges by Councilwoman Mason on her colleagues Council President Peter Cunningham and Councilman Ravi Bhalla.
It’ll be interesting to see the reaction by Councilwoman Mason who based on a recent story by Hoboken.patch.com has two consulting firms currently on her payroll. Will they advise she apologize? As many recall, Councilman Peter Cunningham was away to attend a funeral for his mother-in-law when Councilwoman Mason launched an attack in a City Council meeting on him and also Councilman Bhalla in what she called the “most blatant” violation of pay-to-play.

And Da Horsey’s pick is Backtalk. Who is this horse? Well, the son of Da Horsey, SmartyJones!
=&0=& One of last year’s top juveniles recently reappeared in black-type company in the one-mile Sportsman’s Paradise Stakes The race at Delta Downs witnessed Bashford Manor (gr. III) and Sanford Stakes (gr. II) winner Backtalk face the starter for the first time since his disappointing effort in the Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity (gr. I) last October.Backtalk’s pedigree might not be a particularly flashy one, but there is no denying that he’s classically-bred. His sire, Smarty Jones , came close to claiming the Triple Crown; his broodmare sire, Affirmed, is the last horse to that coveted prize; and his second dam is by a son of Nijinsky II, the last horse to capture the English Triple Crown.
Update: The favorite Super Saver won the race and Ice Box came roaring down the stretch taking second. The long shot Backtalk didn’t fare well but remains a sentimental favorite.
A highly placed education source indicates Dr. Frank Romano, the recent choice by the Hoboken BoE to act as superintendent in the Hoboken school district and who withdrew from negotiations as a blistering internet scorched earth campaign was waged against him – has accepted a similar position for the K-8 Franklin Lakes school district in northern NJ.
The source indicated the Bergen Record may have already reported on the story but MSV has gone ahead to post the unconfirmed word coming off the highly contested race for the local Board of Ed elections held in Hoboken last week.
City of Hoboken announces:
=&0=& Due to potential liability concerns, parking along Hudson Street between 2nd Street and 4th Street will change from angled to parallel parking, as it was traditionally configured approximately ten years ago. Hudson County began their resurfacing program in mid-April, including this portion of Hudson Street. As noted in a memo from Transportation and Parking Director Ian Sacs, P.E. to Mayor Dawn Zimmer, “the angled parking configuration conflicts with county, state, and national roadway design guideline criteria” and does not provide sufficient width “to safely accommodate through vehicles. Due to this condition, Hudson County would not recommend returning to angled parking.” Because of the liability concerns, Director Sacs recommends “returning the street to the original parallel parking configuration on both sides.” All members of the City Council Transportation and Parking Sub-Committee have been briefed on the issue are in agreement with the recommendation. =&1=&: A reader submitted a photo of a flyer from Councilwoman Theresa Castellano on Friday stating the angled parking was being changed.

She complained about broken machines (repaired but she claims it remained broke till the polls closed) and stated seniors were turned away. Somehow she ignores provisional and emergency ballots although they were added to the tallies at the end of the election. If she feels there’s some problems worth investigating she’ll need to follow up with the County.
