Horsey’s Timely News Posts

Friday’s police presser good news for Hoboken, but not for everyone

Friday morning’s press conference on the police was no regular Saturday matinee.  There wasn’t much time to dig in as the media advisory had gone out only the night before.  But being an outsider has some distinct advantages.  You can look at the situation just like any member of the public and in so doing ask some questions the public might have and more importantly seek.  It’s an important role for the press to play.

So just as this big shindig was about to kick off, the mayor comes down the stairs followed by her administration, several of her council allies (who took some heated grief in arduous City Council meetings) and a group of HHA members along with Executive Director Carmelo Garcia. Read More...

Team Occhipinti has a surprise campaign manager

On Saturday, Team Occhipinti held its official opening of its campaign office on lower Monroe Street for the November 2nd special election.  But there’s other news equally if not more important.  Tim Occhipinti has named Jamie Cryan, a fourth ward resident as his campaign manager.

Da Horsey met Jamie back in May at a health fair event held on Mama Johnson field.  He helped out at the event and is looking to bring a positive campaign focusing on the issues and constituent service in the ward.  Government service is present in the family too.  Jamie’s cousin is Union Assemblyman and majority leader Joseph Cryan representing the 20th Assembly district. Chief on Chief: a citizenry view on what lies ahead for the Hoboken Police Department

Richard Tremitiedi, former Hoboken Fire Chief who attended the Friday press conference along with his wife Mary, submitted his observations:

Former Fire Chief on Friday
“Giant step right, but it must be followed with the discipline for all to finalize their retirement, more (retirements) to come to mitigate demotions and the discipline not to replace them. This was not re-inventing the wheel; attrition was the name of the game under the Pasculli and early Russo Administrations. For example, I was promoted to fire chief in 1990 (Pasculli admin.) and there were no new hires in the FD since 1988 and when I retired in 1995 (Russo admin.),  there still were no new hires. Cammarano’s neither gone nor forgotten

MILE SQUARE VIEW EXCLUSIVE

Peter Cammarano has been busy since attending his block party the previous weekend but not in ways some residents thought.  As reported here earlier, MSV has confirmed from independent sources he is still here in Hoboken and made a plea of some sort to postpone his sentence, possibly for two weeks for reasons unknown.

The hands of justice turn slowly, the Hoboken Journal already completing the countdown and many residents believed Petey had been sent off to the clink.

Two no parking signs were visible along with an American flag displayed at Cammarno’s home last Thursday

As recent as Thursday, a moving truck was outside his uptown Bloomfield brownstone and he’s been witnessed parking his car.  Two signs obtained for “no parking were prominently displayed covering four hours for the moving truck to complete its job. Read More...

Beth Mason to Hoboken: ‘I hate you!’

Dear Friend,

We did it!  Together as a community we stopped City Hall from firing 18 patrolmen. There is one reason why these layoffs were canceled; City Hall heard your voice and City Hall backed down.   This is not only a great day for the 2nd Ward, but a great day for all of Hoboken.  This layoff plan was unnecessary from the beginning. Yesterday, City Hall finally did what we asked them to do from the start. Instead of taking 18 patrolmen off of our streets in one fell swoop, the size of the police department will by reduced through attrition.  By ignoring your plan the Mayor and her allies on City Council needlessly caused several months of fear mongering and panic among residents. Now is a time when our leaders should be working to unite this community, not working to divide it for political gain.  There are several important issues that need immediate attention. The financial state of Hoboken University Medical Center, the ongoing litigation over the Hoboken Public Works Garage and using the $20 million budget surplus to cut taxes are what should be the focus of the Mayor and her allies on the City Council.  The credit for saving these jobs, protecting property values and making Hoboken an even safer place to live and raise a family belongs to you. Thank you for standing up for Hoboken. As always please do not hesitate to contact me at (201)-916-8244 or Beth@MasonCityCouncil.org. I look forward to seeing you soon Beth

Beth Mason is nothing more than a blur these days to anyone who remembers her as a reformer.

Talking Ed Note: There’s been a lot of reaction to this email blast (even before MSV posted it) and one must admit it certainly raises lots of emotions but none of them can be described as positive.  It’s difficult to objectively say much of anything on someone who frankly despises the community she was elected to serve.
Related: MSV thought it gave this the right amount of attention, about two sentences.  But then we just read Grafix Avenger’s take and well, besides being side splitting funny, it’s absolutely required reading.  MSV is not responsible for any damages, computer, monitor or other if you should happen to be drinking any liquid when reading the following link: Read More...
