For the 235th!

Here’s one a reader sent from Lynyrd Skynyrd, who is apparently still kicking at least this one does on America’s birthday.

Talking Ed Note: The fireworks today won’t be the only explosions this week.  MSV is working on several stories sure to explode before this week and the month is out.

God bless America this July 4th.  Stay safe and stay true to Hoboken and our Republic.

Guest of the Stable: Richard Tremitiedi

Dear Horsey,

Our governing body is representing us whether we like it or not and they must perform professionally whether they like each other or not. It’s time for them to reach across the aisle and work like a team for the citizens of Hoboken. Whether we liked it or not, our state legislators just gave us an example of their teamwork effort in passing landmark reforms.

It’s time for our city council members to control the human tendency to whine, complain and make excuses They must really get together to continue righting Hoboken’s financial ship and in turn making the right decisions to solve our main problems. You don’t have to be the brightest to achieve success. One just has to be prepared [prior to council meetings] and work hard toward meaningful goals that benefit the citizens of Hoboken. Council changing of the (Old) Guard

Councilman Ravi Bhalla was voted the Council President as the first order of business in the City Council reorg, ending the short reign of Councilwoman Beth Mason.   City Clerk Jimmy Farina moved for a voice vote as it’s been traditional to do so.  But outgoing Council chair Beth Mason had other ideas and forced a roll call vote.  When her turn comes, her vote generates laughter from the audience.

Even with the lone negative vote, the Council Chambers exploded in applause even before Councilman Ravi Bhalla took the oath.  It continued right until the oath was administered. Read More...

Sign of the Times: A Mona Lisa smile takes the City Council dais

The swearing in ceremony had already taken place earlier outdoors, most of the celebratory crowd had departed along with the honored guest of the day, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and a solid but not quite filled to capacity crowd awaited to see how the council would perform in its new alignment.

It was night and day.

Here’s a photo of the new Councilwoman Jen Giattino taking the dais.  She seemed almost reluctant to do so, hovering near the front and almost circling the area several times hesitant to cross the threshold to what awaits on the other side. Read More...

Some news…

Ceremony went well today. Before it began, while taking pictures of ex-felon and former Mayor Anthony Russo from across City Hall, he demanded no pictures be taken. “Don’t tell me what to do,” came the reply.

At this, he lost his temper and started making threats, “I’ll come over there and knock you out.”

“Go ahead do it,” was the emphatic reply. More threats from Anthony Russo and the refrain, “Go ahead and try and send all the goons you want.” Read More...

Ravi Bhalla elected Council President

Ravi Bhalla was voted Council President minutes earlier. Only Councilwoman Beth Mason voted no, both in his nomination and the office.

The audience was laughing at both of her votes. Beth Mason is the shortest serving Council President in living memory.

Councilman Peter Cunningham was voted VP. Carol Marsh was voted on to the Planning Board.

Grist for the Mill: Lt. Gov will swear in Giattino and Cunningham ONLY!

MSV can now reveal Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno will be conducting a swearing in – but not for all council members as stated elsewhere in earlier reports. The Lt. Gov. will be swearing in newly elected 6th ward Councilwoman-elect Jen Giattino and 5th ward Councilman Peter Cunningham.

With a wide scale criminal investigation going on in town by the FBI, there will be some gasps when this comes to light. The decision on this though our sources came far sooner than when the FBI visiting Hoboken in May became known. Read More...

Mayor Zimmer: Welcome our special guest and join us to celebrate “the Republic”

Dear friends,

Tomorrow the new City Council will be sworn in front of City Hall
at 11:00 am!

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno will be joining us as a special guest.

The Council is getting right to work with a solid agenda at noon,

but there will be a get together after wards to celebrate.

Come join the gathering at 1 Republic when the meeting is over.

(I’ll tweet a reminder).

Sorry for the late notice of this. There’s no excuse, but all I can
say is that I have been consumed by making certain that the sale of
Hoboken University Medical Center (HUMC) is completed.

Selling our hospital to Bayonne Medical Center is the only way
to save HUMC and save the taxpayers too!  I’m determined to
ensure this deal is completed in the best interests of our community.

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
