“Hoboken from Afar” by Roslyn Rose

Come meet artist Roslyn Rose, a New Jersey native and longtime Hoboken resident, who returns to the Museum with her second art exhibit for a six-week show. The show opens today with a free reception from 2 – 5 pm.

This show features photo montages inspired by her travels abroad. The foregrounds of her artworks include slides, photos, and found pictures that she collected while traveling in Europe, which are digitally superimposed upon images she’s taken of familiar Hoboken sights. The resulting depictions, which will be on display through Nov. 4, convey the odd sensation of looking through foreign windows and doors onto familiar vistas of home. Read More...

Mayor Dawn Zimmer – two events next week of note

Dear Friends,

I am writing to personally invite you to two very important

fundraising events next week.

Hoboken Charter School Fundraiser
Next Tuesday, September 18th

at the Turtle Club, 936 Park Avenue
6-9 PM

As most of you know, Hoboken Charter School’s building was

badly damaged in a fire last week.  While insurance will cover
a great deal of the costs, there is immediate need for additional help.

The Hoboken Rotary is sponsoring this event and the Turtle Club is
offering a complimentary beverage to anyone who donates $10
at the door.

Vote Yes for November Fundraiser
Next Thursday, September 20th

at Arthurs Tavern, 237 Washington Street
6-8 PM

The citizen sponsored election reform to consolidate municipal elections

on Election Day in November is critically important to the future of our town.

Holding our elections on Election Day will empower Hoboken citizens
by increasing voter participation, reducing voter fatigue, reducing the
seemingly endless barrage of campaign literature and saving taxpayers money.

Unfortunately, the well financed enemies of reform are gearing up to oppose

this much needed reform.  Please help this citizen’s group by giving them
the resources they need to get these reforms enacted by the voters
this November.

The event will include light refreshments and open bar for beer and wine.

The requested contribution is $100 ($150 for couples).

I will be attending both events and look forward to seeing many of you there.

Regards,

Dawn

NJ Senate candidate Joe Kyrillos in Hoboken focuses on women and the economy

State Senator Joe Kyrillos is running for US Senate to represent New Jersey and pitched his case yesterday for voter’s support at Hoboken’s Elysian Cafe in a forum billed “Cup of Joe with Joe.”

In doing so, Kyrillos took the statewide race back to incumbent NJ Senator Bob Menendez’s backyard who is a Hoboken resident facing the state’s voters this November for re-election.

State Senator Joe Kyrillos is challenging Senator Bob Menendez for the US Senate seat this November.

Appearing before several dozen local Republicans in the “Lady’s Room,” of the Elysian Cafe, Kyrillos the Republican challenger focused on the economy, its disparate impact on women and finding real solutions for the country.  “There’s 20 million plus people out of work and my opponent has no plan to make it better,” he said to no surprise in the audience.  “We have to have a different approach in Washington… Let’s deal with our long term obligations,” he bluntly added.
