Satiric redux: James B and Bet Mazin – Downfall of a wannabe shark

This satire originally published in July 2010 ages better then fine wine.  If anything, it’s been exceeded in its farce by the lust for power, avarice and moral depravity of the lampooned.

Beth Mason’s latest Civic League “charity” scam imploding

Last Sunday, MSV began work on a story to reveal the latest Mason Civic League scandal dwarfing others on these pages previous. The feature investigation was set to overwhelmingly demonstrate the dirty lengths Beth Mason would go in self-promotion as she unveiled a competing county “charity” against the City of Hoboken’s RebuildHoboken.org.

The troubles for Beth Mason and the nefarious actions of her latest “charity” are spilling across Hudson County like a storm surge of sludge.  Under the umbrella of the newly named organization, Hudson County recovers, the website promoted on page three of the Hudson Reporter by the Mason family is setting its sight on the political positions of Hudson County Executive and/or US Congress.  Those positions are currently held by Tom DeGise and Albio Sires respectively. City of Hoboken announces:

=&0=& 97% of Food Establishments Have Re-Opened
Hoboken’s businesses are overcoming the effects of Hurricane Sandy and re-opening their doors. As of today, 97% of Hoboken’s 433 retail food establishments have re-opened and passed inspection by the Hoboken Health Department. “Now more than ever, we encourage everyone to shop local and visit Hoboken,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “Everything that makes Hoboken great – our restaurants, unique shops, and parks – are open and ready to enjoy. This holiday season, come out and support Hoboken and the businesses that help make it thrive.” “This weekend is Small Business Saturday, but shopping local must not begin and end there,” said Gregory Dell’Aquila, President of the Hoboken Chamber of Commerce. “Many of the impacted local businesses re-opened quickly and are determined to recover, but they need your support by keeping it local. Shop, dine, stay and play in Hoboken.” The City’s cleanup efforts are also continuing. For the second weekend, the City is calling for volunteers to participate in a citywide cleanup on Saturday, November 24 from 10am to 4pm. Residents of Southwest Hoboken are asked to abide by the posted “Temporary No Parking” signs so that crews and volunteers can clean the streets. Residents can RSVP to participate via the Facebook event listing: www.facebook.com/events/450600574998314 or volunteers can go to City Hall any time between 10am and 4pm. “It’s been a very difficult time for our community, and I thank everyone for their support,” added Mayor Zimmer. “I wish everyone a happy, safe, and enjoyable Thanksgiving.”

Sign of the Times: Gov. Chris Christie meets Da Horsey

At the Elks Club a few weeks back, Da Horsey was taking pictures of the event with many NJ political dignitaries in attendance who were overshadowed by one person who held the room under his sway.  That person was of course Governor Chris Christie.

As the swarm made its way around the room, Da Horsey suddenly found himself going from photographer to participant.  This photo comes courtesy of our colleague Kurt Gardiner.   Da Horsey thanked the Governor for many things and we’ll keep the list to ourselves.  Feel free to caption the discussion if you so desire.  Here’s one in a humorous vein to get you started. Horsey: Governor she’s running amok; an absolute cancer to our community even after you gave Hoboken $5 million and saved the hospital from her clutches. Governor: Horsey keep the faith and know you are never alone in your fight against corruption while I’m Governor. =&0=&: From Hoboken, thank you Governor!

Near the eve of Thanksgiving comes word naming two political operatives never before identified in Hoboken.  The unveiling of the two are a father and son team: Barry and Tim Brendel working through Beth Mason’s slimey fish for all seasons: FinBoy.  This  according to a report on Grafix Avenger.

Grafix Avenger dropped the cranberry bomb on the rancid Mason fish with a source connecting “Not Perry,” a feigned Perry Belfiore decoy who is in fact the father of “Stalker” Tim Brendel the Mason videographer who has filmed Hoboken council, BoE, zoning board meetings, legal hearings and even the home of the Mayor Zimmer after a council meeting ended early. Community: Mayor Zimmer Strongly Urges Community to Register With FEMA
Hi smarty jones,

** Local Business Asked to Submit Survey with Damage Estimates **

Mayor Dawn Zimmer is strongly urging all residents to file with FEMA with their latest storm-related damage estimates. Local businesses are urged to complete an online survey so the City can establish an accurate accounting of damage: http://hobokennj.wufoo.com/forms/hoboken-business-storm-damage-survey.

“Even if you’re discouraged with the process, even if you’ve already been denied, the best way for Hoboken to get the help we need is to document your damage, register with FEMA, file with your insurance company, and appeal, appeal, appeal,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “Unless the federal government knows the true extent of the cost to rebuild, we can’t receive the extra help we need. If and when that assistance arrives, it is important for your case to remain open, so I can’t stress enough how critical it is to stick with the process, continue providing updated damage estimates, and continue appealing. We also need a full accounting of the impact of Hurricane Sandy on local businesses so we can advocate as strongly as possible for our community.”

In a meeting with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, who President Obama has tasked with leading the Sandy recovery effort, and Senator Robert Menendez, Mayor Zimmer stressed the need to address the inequity in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The program provides only limited benefits to those who live in garden level apartments, despite requiring that they pay for coverage. In addition, since NFIP only covers individuals, damage to common areas is typically not covered because they are the responsibility of condominium associations, which are registered non-profits. This is problematic for the building’s residents since the individual property owners are ultimately responsible for the condominium association expenses.

Secretary Donovan noted that he and the federal government are working to ensure that better and more assistance becomes available, and that in order to do so, everyone that was affected needs to register with FEMA.

Mayor Zimmer has also raised her concerns with Vice President Joseph Biden during his recent visit to Hoboken and with senior officials from FEMA.

In addition, Mayor Zimmer is on the executive board of the Rebuild Hoboken Relief Fund, a non-profit organization to assist individuals, businesses, and other non-profits fill the gap between insurance coverage, government assistance, and the true cost of rebuilding.
