Volunteer Request for Fox Hill Community Garden Build Out
From the desk of Councilman Peter Cunningham:
Dear Friends, Family and Neighbors,
First, many thanks to all of you that voted in support of our candidates in Column E in record numbers today. We were successful in winning 64 of the 67 of the Democratic Committee Districts City wide.
On this Saturday, from 9:30 to 4pm, I will be hosting along with Hoboken Housing Authority Executive Director Marc Recko an event to build a community garden on the grounds at Fox Hill Gardens at 311 13th Street. Fox Hill is a mostly senior building within Hoboken’s Housing Authority in northwest Hoboken (13th and Willow).
The Authority has agreed to provide “experienced” support for all levels that would like to partake in this event. We envision two shifts, one in the AM and one in the PM. The proposed project is to stall a raised garden making it accessible to all individuals – including those confined to a wheel chair. All materials will be provided to build the bed along with soil and plants!
I have been working towards making this a reality for the residents of Fox Hills for many years, and we now have an Executive with hands on experience with community gardens and other Housing Authorities. He has the professional staff to support the initiative, which will no doubt bring our community closer together. I am hoping that you can join in the fun and support the benefits a community garden can bring to this important neighborhood.
Coffee and donuts will be served in the morning followed by a lunch time cook out.
Please let me know if you can take the time to join us on Saturday and RSVP by end of day Thursday for planning purposes. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.
