Urban Hoboken gets out the green thumb on green roofs

The Committee for a Green Hoboken has recently launched two new programs to promote education and awareness of “green building” and sustainability issues in our local community, specifically Green Building Tours and the Sustainability Round Table Discussions.  These events, starting this month will take place on a monthly basis, beginning January 2011.  I would like to invite you to the first event:

  • The QLC and Committee for a Green Hoboken will be hosting the first session of a new program geared towards education and awareness of green building issues.

    Panelists will include:
Bart Bakelaar – Owner,  B. Bakelaar Landscaping: Bart will speak on the costs and benefits of landscaping, both ground level and rooftop (aka green roofs), with regards to stormwater management.

Tom Chartier – Owner of Chartier Redevelopment Group: Tom will speak on his experience with installing garden roofs at three high rise residential buildings in Battery Park City, as well as storm water collection in Hoboken and pervious “grass pavers” in Union City.
Steve Fahmie – Owner, Solevis: Steve will speak on his experience as a homeowner installing a garden roof with rain barrel and ground level landscaping in Hoboken, as well as his experience as a member of the Hoboken Shade Tree Commission.

Thank you,
Tom Chartier
