The SantaCon sees eight arrests in Hoboken
SantaCon, the annual event inviting a drinking day promoted by 11 local bar and restaurants on Saturday saw eight arrests, mostly of people from out of town.
Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante published via Twitter details on the arrests and recorded the eighth:
Arrest #8 was a female from Jersey City at 94 Harrison St, for DWI, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, & Possession with Intent to Distribute Drugs within 500 feet of a Public Housing Complex, by Officer Ricky Truppner.— Chief Ken Ferrante (@KenFerrante) December 8, 2019
In addition to detailing various arrests, the police chief noted the eight arrests are a drop from 14. He described SantaCon as “an event that the City does not sanction or authorize but is organized by online promoters and 11 bars.”
The breakdown of offenses follows:
There were 49 City Ordinance Summonses issued (33 were for open containers of alcohol in public & total # is up from 34 last year). There were 34 Motor Vehicle Moving Violation Summonses Issued. 20 individuals were transported to hospitals for alcohol related issues, down from 32!— Chief Ken Ferrante (@KenFerrante) December 8, 2019
Further, a charity call for gifts was declared a sham:
The organizers & participating bars set up a wristband (at a cost) system w/drink specials & try to publicize the event as a “charity” event, urging those coming to the city to bring toys for underpriviledged children. That’s a sham as I didn’t see 1 person in 20 hrs with a gift.— Chief Ken Ferrante (@KenFerrante) December 8, 2019
