Related: During the early am hours of the Orlando terrorist attack, Omar Mateen made more than a dozen phone calls and posted to his Facebook account. New reports obtaining those comments the terrorist offered are just published.

Among them, Mateen wrote during the lull of hours in the attack, “You kill innocent women and children by doing us airstrikes..now taste the Islamic state vengeance.”

In his final written pronouncement, the Orlando terrorist predicted, “In the next few days you will see attacks from the Islamic state in the usa.” Read More...

Peeling the onion

While details aren’t going to be delved into for the moment, there was more legal activity surrounding the SLAPP-suit than the related extracuricular criminal charges dismissed last week.

The Thursday criminal charges tossed out of court were followed with a major hearing in Hudson Superior Court Friday afternoon.

Subpoenas were front and center but not of the trial testimony variety. The substantial ruling orders the onion peeled and the clock for its unpeeling started. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in an unpaid judgment is the impetus to that effort. Read More...

Horse Sense: The enemy within

The deadliest terrorist attack on US soil since 9-11 apparently follows a clarion call by ISIS to begin Ramadan by seeing supporters hit America on its home soil.

MSV had come across this “kill list” with thousands of Americans last week and noted it had been largely kept under wraps from the American public. On the list of thousands, 600 were in Florida.

Most targeted are apparently average Americans who would not be among those gilded with abundant armed security and towering fences with security cameras pointed in every direction. Read More...

Councilman Peter Cunningham: On Neighborhood Parking Meters

From the desk of Councilman Peter Cunningham:

Dear neighbors, friends and family, Thank you for your indulgence on a very important parking issue that’s likely to have an impact on our historic neighborhoods, particularly in the 5th Ward.  Recently, a number of zoning board and city council decisions have affected our neighborhood:  the Zoning Board appeal of the historic church at 901 Bloomfield, the installation of a 24 hour market at 10th and Bloomfield, and historic brownstone and red brick homes threatened as a result of zoning law changes that I did support.   We now face another change in our neighborhoods:  the installation of public parking meters at every intersection in our neighborhoods.  There are different opinions on whether or not we should be charging non residents for parking on our streets.  I do support the economic benefits of finding new sources to fund our infrastructure needs that will be paid for by non-residents. However, the aesthetics of the meters do not fit with the historic charm of our neighborhoods and, for this reason, I do not support them.  I would support more creative thinking using new technology (“pay by plate” which is being instituted), and collaboration with our local businesses. Using your smart phone with pay by plate, there’s no need for a parking meter.  Working with our local businesses can help support those that do not have smart phone technology.  These concepts are not entirely unique as they have been done in other communities.  However, it appears I may be a minority on this issue. I would like to hear your thoughts on this matter.  At this point, I do have a commitment from the Mayor that there will be some flexibility on where meters will be placed at each intersection.  For instance, meters would be placed where there’s a retail establishment, but not all corners have retail.  I have attached a map of meter locations and what the meters look like.  I have also included the release from city hall in support of this program with a nixle link below.   Thanks, as always, for your interest and feedback.

Beth Mason criminal charges against MSV thrown out of court as First Amendment rights preserved

=&0=&=&1=&=&2=&

In a surprising conclusion to the trial started in February, Jersey City Municipal Court Judge Cynthia Jackson dismissed former councilwoman Beth Mason’s criminal harassment claims and issued a continuance of a mutual no contact order between Hoboken’s lightning rod for controversy and this MSV editor.

The turnabout came as witnesses were slated to testify today against Beth Mason, contradicting her sworn February trial testimony.

Mason filed a criminal harassment allegation after handed a subpoena in the Bajardi v Pincus trial. She claimed and testified under oath in February the document was “smacked” into her chest at the September 17th, 2014 Hoboken City Council meeting. Read More...
