Mayor Dawn Zimmer: Community update

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer announces:

I hope you, your family and friends are enjoying the summer!  Below are updates on important initiatives and events taking place in our great City.

Upgrades to Water Main System

It is important to take a proactive approach to fixing our City’s infrastructure, especially our water main system. That is why we are investing $5.2 million to upgrade our aging water system, targeting the highest priority water mains in need of replacement. This is in addition to the replacement of all of the water mains on Washington Street as a part of the street’s redesign project.

Launching Parkmobile in Hoboken

Earlier this week, Hoboken introduced a new and more convenient way for residents and visitors to pay for parking via phone application without having to go to the meter. I’m proud that under my administration, our City has advanced from the days of only paying with quarters to having the options of paying with credit cards, bills, quarters and now by application.

Our Own Hoboken Olympian

I had the pleasure of meeting Hoboken resident and United States Olympic fencer, Dagmara Wozniak last week. Her dedication to her sport and her team is truly remarkable. Best of luck to Dagmara and all of Team USA at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio!

National Night Out

On Tuesday, I joined the Hoboken and Stevens Police Departments for the “National Night Out in Hoboken.”  This annual event is the latest example of our Police Department strengthening its relationship with the community through outreach events.  HPD previously hosted two “Coffee with a Cop” events with residents, and will be hosting another one this fall.  Thank you to all members of our law enforcement teams for everything you do to keep our community safe.

Additional Tennis Court Access
I am thrilled to share the good news that the City has partnered with Stevens to provide additional tennis court access for Hoboken residents this summer. I’d like to thank Stevens President Farvardin and the Stevens athletic department on behalf of those looking to get out and hit the tennis courts!

PATH Weekend Work
On the weekends, the Port Authority will be closing the Hoboken-33rd PATH connection both ways due to critical safety and signal upgrades mandated by the federal government. Work will take place from midnight on Fridays through 5 am on Mondays through December, 2016.  PATH will run service to the World Trade Center from Hoboken on the weekends.  More information on PATH modifications here.

Looking forward to staying in touch in the months ahead.
