Freeholder candidate Phil Cohen: “It’s time to take our reform efforts to the county!”

From the desk of Freeholder candidate Phil Cohen:

Dear Friends,

We have worked together on many successful campaigns to bring reform to Hoboken.  Today, our city, led by Mayor Dawn Zimmer, is a place we can be proud of.

Now it’s time to take our reform efforts to the county!

I’ve decided to run for Hudson County Freeholder to do just that — and I am asking you for your help.

The primary election is on Tuesday, June 3, and I will be running on the Democratic line for Freeholder to represent all of Hoboken and parts of Jersey City.  My goal is to bring fiscal reform to county government.   We need to know why each of the last four years the county increased its tax levy from 3% to 5%, resulting in an even bigger hit to Hoboken taxpayers.  Why does it have to be this way?  Why is the county not transparent in the way it handles its budget process, as our city is?  What is it that we aren’t seeing?  If elected Freeholder, I will ask hard questions, and share the answers with you, the taxpayers of the district, so that we can work together to build a more efficient county government.
We will challenge the county to better use its resources to serve our district.  Why can’t the county deliver better parks, better roads, and improved educational and career opportunities?

I am humbled to run on the Democratic line with Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Albio Sires. I am honored to receive endorsements from Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto.

But we can’t win on June 3rd unless Hoboken and Jersey City voters understand that voting in the Democratic primary matters.

So please help us get the word out about our campaign.  The time to talk to your friends and neighbors is now.  Soon, there will be opportunities to volunteer, make a donation, canvass, phone bank, host a gathering, and get out the vote to support our campaign.  Let me know if you can help, and I will be in touch.

Let’s win together on June 3rd.  I can’t do it without you.

Thanks.
-Phil
