This program has already saved cardholders an average of 45% in 2010 on the cost of prescription drugs. Even pets and family members living outside the city are able to take part in the program. The Rx card will be distributed free of charge and may be used at all pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies in Hoboken and throughout the nation and includes over 60,000 drugs in its formulary. =&2=&

Rami Pinchevsky – It’s official: In for the win for the 4th ward council seat

Rami Pinchevsky for Council announces:

=&0=& =&1=& Last week Rami Pinchevsky, a current Hoboken Democratic Committeeman in the 4th Ward, filed paperwork with New Jersey Board of Elections to run for Hoboken City Council this May. His decision to run is motivated by a frustration with the current political rhetoric.

“What we need is an independent voice representing everyone in the 4th Ward. For too long, politics and the status quo have stood in the way of real progressive change. We deserve the services that our hard-earned tax dollars pay for.” Read More...

Proposed Rent Control ordinance for the hearing at City Hall tonight

For those who can’t make the hearing tonight, here’s the draft:

Proposed Rent Leveling Ordianance Draft 1

Talking Ed Note: A quick glance shows a limitation on overcharges to two years. This will prevent the absurd application where huge amounts were being tallied over decades due to all kinds of problematic paperwork coming out of files in City Hall.

Sadly, for some owners who literally lost their property, it comes too late.

There will be lots of disagreement on this proposed ordinance. The problems will not all be fixed due to the political problems stemming from the unfairness in the application. If you are a small homeowner, consider yourself on the list of those will bear the brunt of
this discriminatory proposed ordinance. Read More...

The battle of rent control begins in earnest tonight at 6:00 in City Hall

Rent control in Hoboken is more than the mix of regulations limiting some home owners to far less than market rates on their housing units; it’s a complete mish mash of decades old regulations applying to some and not to others.  The paperwork supporting the regulation has more holes in it than the Jets defensive line in last night’s AFC Championship Game in Pittsburgh.

Hoboken’s rent control ain’t a movie, it’s a nightmare

That’s only topped by the unfairness when an owner discovers a previous owner failed to provide correct data and now they are on the hook to a tenant for tens of thousands of dollars they believed were undercharged for rent in the first place. Read More...

Rami Pinchevsky to take on Old Guard’s Tim Occhipinti in the 4th ward May election

Rami Pinchevsky filed papers this week for May’s 4th ward City Council seat according to a story in Friday’s Hudson Reporter. Pinchevsky part of the young wave of professionals active in Hoboken community and political events is a member of the Hoboken Planning Board and is a long time advocate for parks in the southwest, an associate of Mayor Zimmer and affiliated with reform minded citizens throughout town.

Rami Pinchevsky speaking at the City Council meeting last month

Pinchevsky has been regularly appearing at City Council meetings recently speaking on issues at several. Former Councilman Mike Lenz noted in an interview with the Hudson Reporter he gives the 4th ward an alternative to the failed independence Tim Occhipinti claimed to represent. Read More...

Mike Russo at Hospital meeting: ‘You can not sell the hospital’

Here is the City’s video taken at the last hospital board meeting January 4th announcing the 60 day negotiation with the selected bidder.  (The City has fixed its incomplete video.)

Most interesting and unreported is the segment with Councilman Mike Russo.  At the 19:20 mark he speaks and informs the Hospital Board they can not sell the hospital – he says they do not have the authority to do so.  According to the “bond documents,” he says, “the Hospital Authority does not have the right to sell the hospital.” Read More...

Zoning, sewerage appts, Council chair and managing public comments

Last night saw not the three expected but four Hoboken Zoning Board positions come to the fore for appointment, transparency be damned – at least that was Councilwoman Castellano’s excuse or as she put it, ‘We learned it from you.’  That’s from the kid’s playground school of “No, you are.”  Alrighty then.
The most interesting nomination in some respects was a young supporter of Tim Occhipinti – Michael DeFusco who previously is said to have been a supporter of Peter Cammarano.  It appears he contributed to each ($100 to Occhipinti) and last night he was awarded a prize at the tender age of 28 for one of the most important board positions in town.  Not too shabby.  But why was he selected among so many people on the applied list?
Below is his letter last November after the fourth ward special election to the Hudson Reporter speaking some powerful accolades about Tim Occhipinti.  The departure from reality in this letter began as soon as Tim took the seat.  There are many words to describe Tim Occhipinti and his performance last night was woeful in many respects, but the worst moment was him eager to take on State law ignoring the required ordinance on Corner Cars for two pods being moved.  He was adamant pushing to violate State law and do what he wanted right up until sanity prevailed (finally) and the issue was sent to subcommittee.
Also newly named to a zoning board seat was Joseph Crimmins who earns some accolades for his intelligence.  Irene Smith was bumped from fourth to second alternate and former fire chief Richard Tremitiedi was a surprise for the final fourth alternate position.
Here’s Michael DeFusco’s November 21st letter to the Hudson Reporter.  At the Jubilee Center debate, Tim Occhipinti made a reckless, flippant charge asking how much a zoning board seat goes for suggesting the price was $1,000.  His terrible showing that night belies his going rate – it’s down to 100 bucks.  Thanks Tim.
Dear Editor:

I would like to congratulate the 4th Ward’s newly elected councilman, Tim Occhipinti, for running a positive and issue-based campaign. Despite unwarranted attacks from his opponent, Tim stuck to the issues and the voters responded for change. Having known Tim for a number of years, I can affirm that the residents of the 4th Ward elected a good man whose integrity is rock solid, whose ideas are pragmatic and whose optimism is infectious. The 4th Ward desperately needed a dedicated representative, not a politician, to address a number of issues, and they’ve now found that in their new councilman. Read More...
