Ravi Bhalla goes all out Fake News on homeowner zoning changes by City Council

It may be August and the dogs days of summer but Hoboken is never short of politics and in the case of today’s Mayor Ravi Bhalla fake news release, hyper-politics.

Addressed in his official Fake News release (Bhalla recently applied the term himself) he castigated the Hoboken City Council for modifying a change aiding Hoboken homeowners in their backyard as a “matter of right.”

Bhalla had vetoed the ordinance overwhelmingly approved 7-2 by the City Council.

The change to the ordinance B-40 impacts Hoboken residents limited after Hurricane Sandy where elevation became an impediment to making renovations. The other Hoboken owners most impacted in their backyard, the “donut hole” areas are those who wish to add narrow stairs or a fire escape to their floor above the flood elevation line. Read More...

Grist for the Mill: Forging ahead back to City Hall?

The whispers are growing about a shakeup in the Hoboken mayor’s office. The blowback from the election where Joe Crowley in Queens went down in the primary reverberates and his campaign manager may be eyeing a return to Hoboken

Vijay Chaudhuri, campaign manager also for Ravi Bhalla last fall is said to be looking to return working in the mayor’s office. The former campaign manager in a controversial “terror flyer” fueled victory (sources unknown) may seek a chair back in the mayor’s office where he worked as Chief of Staff for former mayor Dawn Zimmer. Overcrowded with Ravi Bhalla having doubled the political aides on arrival, the City Council is not likely to sit idly with another political fixture added to the mayor’s office payroll. Hoboken Council Votes to Cancel Contract for Law Firm Representing Bhalla in Ethics Complaint Appeal

The City Council voted 7-2 last night in favor of a resolution that cancels a contract for a law firm that had been representing Mayor Ravi Bhalla in an appeal of an ethics violation that was upheld by the Local Finance Board in November 2017, just days after Bhalla was elected as Mayor. The ethics complaint was originally filed against Bhalla by a resident in 2010 after the then-Councilman voted for a city contract for an attorney with whom he shared an office lease. Read More...

City Council rejects Ravi Bhalla’s massive parking fine increases

Last night, the Hoboken City Council held its August meeting with sparse denizens from the public in attendance.

One Ravibot showed up to perform a summer hit job to no consequence while another Mayor Ravi Bhalla political effort to massively increase parking fines came up empty.

The agenda item failed to obtain any council member’s sponsorship. Ravi Bhalla could not even get councilmembers Jim Doyle and Emily Jabour nor backdoor ally Michael Russo to sign on and see discussion.

The Administration item was promptly yanked without a word said. Read More...

Ravi Bhalla aims for massive across the board parking fine increases

Mayor Ravi Bhalla is seeking major increases in Hoboken parking fines. The City Council meeting tonight will see the matter before them but is less likely to be receptive to the massive increases he seeks.

With only two of nine council members ready to rubber stamp the increases in Jim Doyle and Emily Jabbour plus Michael Russo who has an “understanding” with Ravi Bhalla; there’s likely no two additional votes available for passage. The proposed parking fines sought by Ravi Bhalla are detailed below:

Talking Ed Note: Put this related tax hike increase into the “never let a sleepy summer time opportunity go to waste” category. The major parking fine increases presented are designed to be slipped past the goalie when no one is looking.

Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher: Proposed Dog Run at Harborside Park – Council Voting tonight!

Official release:

Dear friends and neighbors:   Tonight, among many other things, I am sponsoring and the council will be voting on a temporary new dog run to be added into Harborside Park.  This will be the end of the field that is along the western edge adjacent to Park Avenue, with the entrance being on the inner sidewalk.  The size of the run would be no more than 20% of the field.

The resolution attached was what was submitted by the Administration and included in our agenda pack.  I asked yesterday that it be amended, which it is in process of doing, to include more context.  Form over substance as it ultimately accomplishes the same thing, but the context around this proposed change is important, including feedback we received from the public hearing we had last week so please read what will be the amended language below.   Read More...
