My heart breaks for those people impacted by the train accident in Hoboken this morning and their families, and I wish those injured a speedy recovery. 

Amid the emergency this morning, I was comforted to see the great work being done by the Hoboken Police Department, Hoboken Fire Department, EMT’s, and the NJ Transit police, who were the first on scene, followed by law enforcement officials and emergency personnel from Jersey City, North Bergen, North Hudson Fire, Union City, Bayonne, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, and other Hudson County neighborhoods. Advisory: Train Crash at Hoboken Terminal
Dear MSV readers,

Hoboken Terminal is closed due to a train crash. Rail and PATH is not in operation. PATH is operating from Newport. The waterfront walkway is closed. Use Marin Blvd to reach Jersey City. NJ Transit buses are temporarily picking up and dropping off at Washington St & Observer Highway.

NJ Transit train crashes in Hoboken

Various news reports of a NJ Transit train crash in Hoboken earlier this morning with an unknown number of injuries.

Emergency vehicles are blaring through Hoboken with numerous emergency responders on the scene.

One commuter relayed being in the crash on Twitter:

A commuter train ran right through Hoboken Station in NJ just now.

BREAKING: Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop announces intention to run for re-election and endorses Phil Murphy for NJ Governor

In a blockbuster announcement across the way from the Mile Square City, Jersey City Mayor reversed all conventional wisdom on his political future in one fell swoop.

NHSA receives multiple grants for sewer infrastructure projects

The North Hudson Sewerage Authority announces:

Since the beginning of the year, the North Hudson Sewerage Authority has aggressively sought out grants for sewer infrastructure projects from both public and private sources. Thus far in 2016, NHSA has received a total of $600,000 from four different funding sources.   

The NJ Clean Energy Audit Program Grant provided $200,000 to assess energy usage and recommend efficiencies at NHSA’s two major treatment plants in Hoboken and West New York. The Department of Homeland Security awarded a $250,000 404 Flood Mitigation Grant to refit switchgear at the Adams Street treatment plant. NHSA received a $101,462 Community Development Block Grant to fund the sewer lining project in West New York. The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission’s NJ Aquatic Trash Prevention Program awarded NHSA $48,125 to install catch basin grates to prevent trash and debris from entering the sewer system at high traffic locations.

Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro introduced a bill (A4184) that would establish an alert system in cases of hit-and-run incidents where someone has been seriously injured or killed. The aim of the bill is to aid law enforcement in pursuit of a fleeing hit-and-run driver by publishing information on road signs, to state employee and law enforcement cell phones, and to the media (similar to AMBER and Silver Alerts). Public hearing on the 500 foot rule

Last night the City Council hosted the public hearing on the 500 foot rule. A number of local business owners and residents with council members shared different perspectives speaking to the past, present and future impact of a repeal or no change at all.

The new vendor the City of Hoboken is using doesn’t appear to have the proceedings available for viewing yet. Live council telecasts are available at the linked City of Hoboken website.
